Sick Plant

Hello,
Been lurking for a while, I've finished 2 grows with 4 x cxb3070 @ 700mA
both times plants have suffered from some ailment about 4-5weeks into flower,
I'm not sure what it is and I was hoping some of the LED guys could take a look.
Cab is about 1M tall, medium is verve multi purpose compost, nutes are old timer grow and bloom.
this plant is looking pretty unwell, although it did have a very poor childhood whilst I was moving house.
heres some pics from veg to flower.

1st or 2nd week flower

bad plant on left, okay plant on right, (same strain)

4-5 weeks into flower, bad times :(

close up - 6 weeks flower.

I did have a heater next to this plant for a week or so and Im pretty sure it suffered some bad over heat. I have since changed the heater to something a little less powerful.

Thanks for looking,
UKP

Wow that's rough, buddy. Leaves should still be healthy and green @ 4-5 weeks into bloom.

More info might help, environment, feed strength and such? First picks look like over watering, later pics maybe nitrogen def. Moving from other lighting to LED can sometimes take some adjusting of feed, usually more calmag.

Hiya Cap, feed strength was about 1/2 the stated dose on the bottle, 2ml/l. I probably did have a over watering issue when they were younger.
I've never grown under hid so I don't have much to compare to. I see a lot of red stems, does this indicate a def of some source?
Any UK growers have experience with verve?
Thanks,
Ukp

If your growing with bottled nutrients, what is the brand and what is your EC and PH like on your mix when watering? What pens are you using to measure this and have they been recently calibrated?

Hi Verde,
Im growing in soil so I've never thought I needed to worry about PH / EC etc.. I live in a 'hard'water area, nutes are Old Timer grow and bloom for hard water. When watering I normally mix up 2L of hot/cold straight from tap and add nutes to that.

My cab is 1M high and the cobs are pretty close to the plants, although this doesn't appear to negatively affect other plants in the cabinet.

Is there a suggested min distance between cobs @ 700mA & top of colas / canopy?

@superbak3d. - I think there was an element of that going on,
What heater do you use in your cab and where do you put it physically ?

If your in organic soil then you don't need to worry about PH (so they say) if its not organic then that's a different story.
What temps are you getting without a heater, I have never known a UK grower use one, but that said I don't know any running cobs at 700mA (in person) so maybe your temps were really low?
I would say its not Nitrogen deficient due to the lower leaves still been greenish. They would be the first to be sacrificed.
Tempted to say Phosphorus Deficiency due to the pattern of yellowing, crispy appearance, red stems and curling under. Could be due to PH
Could also be to much iron or zinc causing a lock out of Phosphorus. Hard water contains higher amounts of calcium and Magnesium which can cause a higher availability of iron and zinc preventing the availability of Phosphorus.
This is speculation because I don't grow soil and personally have not seen this problem first hand.
But @Dr.Pecker is an organics guy and very wise, maybe he can say if theres anything in what I'm saying, if I'm wrong and more importantly wtf is going on with your plants.

Are these the nutrients your using?

PH and EC are very important when using mineral salts to avoid lockout and deficiencies. In soil your nutrient solution PH should be around 6.5 and EC depends on what nutrients are in the soil and the stage of growth.

As for hight on cobs at I would would say at 700ma you should be good at down to 8" from the plants but you do want an even spread so 12" to 14" will even out hot spots.

How is your cabs air exchange? Air exchange is one of the most underrated part of growing. Fresh cool air in with the exit of warm overly humid stale air out is the key. Replacing your cabs air every couple minutes 24/7 will greatly improve a gardens health... :)

Thanks for all the replies, I'll get a few more pictures tonight of the other plants in the box.
Air movement is 4" in & 5" out runs 24/7 at about 60%.

Verde - I'm using these nutes

I will get some litmus paper and check PH of feed, is litmus paper accurate enough or would it be better getting a electronic device?

Without the heater running temps are between 18 low & 25 high
I had a heater running in there a few months ago but it was too big and I think it gave rise to heat stress in the plant above,

distance from cobs to buds is about 4" at the moment, crappy spread because they are positioned around the fan and filter, I will attempt to move these for next grow.

Many thanks

I dont understand the link, can you explain?
The first picture has too much nitrogen. What soil did you start with? How long were they in that pot before you started flowering? The other plant could be rootbound and looks locked out.

Thanks for the complement. You can mess up soil ph and cause burn and deficiencies with additives. And not all soils are created equal as far as buffering ph.

Hi there UKpeanuts.
I have used Verve for years, even before it was called Verve! Lol
If you have access to Verve multipurpose compost then you should be able to get levingtons Tomatorite or Sure to grow, both liquid one part ferts.
Old timer is spot on too.
I've used Tomatorite for years as well, for rooted cuttings, young plants to finish.
You really need an ec pen .
Get a bag of perlite, and bag of vermiculite for your next grow and mix it with the compost.
Like this.

Your plants are under fed.
A good shot of the all round ferts you are using and they'll perk up
I just did a quick ec test on the Grow Sure and VITALINK bloom
10 litre watering can 20ml of Grow Sure ec was 1.1
10 litre watering can 50ml of VITALINK ec was 1.1
That's why an ec pen/truncheon is handy cause different feeds are different strengths
Also my water is around 7.2 - 7.8 depending on time of year so a pH pen is handy to have as well.
Hope it goes well for you.

First set is N tox and over water. The second set looks like p/k deficient with a bit of cla/mag problem.

It is most likely due to the mix of organics and bottled nutes causing lock out.
