i came to the same conclusion , but then i thought , this still happens when i use all root riot cubes , quite often i have to scalpel off wilting leaves but they still root ok ....

All ok but no roots as yet , i have spotted new growth on all 3 clones , although if i'm honest the root riot clone seems to be less stressed,
Changed the water mix , added some Canna Rhizotone , great product that improves roots and helps plants under stress , latest pics added , the 2 larger clones were taken 2 days later .....

Well i have no results that back up that statement , after i had taken todays pics that i will post later i noticed that 1 of the sponge cuttings has small roots poking through , the root riot clone is yet to show , so far its not better at all.

just the fact that you can see a root in the sponge and there aren't roots just exploding out of the rr cubes proves to me that this is absolutely a viable method to root cuttings. a lot can happen in the next few days but this seems like a real winner. i'm sure results would vary based on sponge density and the solution that is used. i'm sure with a few experimental tweaks the sponges might even prove to be a better choice. i really love this thread.

I agree with what you have said , i have tried to keep it as basic as possible , just to see if it would work , and it seems it has , if i really looked into how the root riot cubes are made , what they are made of and what they add to the mix , im sure i could tweak it to perfection , you know as well as i do , when a clone is transplanted into whatever medium it will be grown in , they always kick into life in a day or 2 and any health issues whilst rooting can easily be lost , i root alot of clones , this could be a huge saving for me , i pay 7£ for 24 root riot cubes , with sponge i can match that with 1£.......

Home depot, lowes sell a bigger more natural sponge. They are usually in the tile section used for cleaning up tile. They are large and not expensive.

When i was selecting the sponge i looked at a few types , when i first started taking clones way back , i used to root in water , i found with this method after planting it took the plants longer to get a firm hold in the soil , as a result they were a bit floppy , the first sponges i looked at were not very sturdy , its suprising how many different types there are! anyway i went for the larger Car wash type and cut them down ....

Ok firstly my apologies for missing yesterdays update , overnight , the Root riot cutting has exploded with Roots , all the Sponge clones are also Displaying roots including the 2 that are larger and where planted later(2 days) So , it seems the larger Cuttings in Sponge rooted as fast as the Root riot, but the smaller clones in Sponge struggled , but still , i think will be fine , i will continue the thread right through potting and vegging of the plants , i will add a video tomoz of clones being Potted .......
