Shroomin with Dick

Yep, the cakes are fucked. Lots of aborts, caps rotting on the non-aborts. Out they went. Onward. I just got a new syringe of GT today, so now I think I'll move to the agar, and start fucking around with trying to isolate a strain out of it to use in a tub.

Just starting to read up & do some broadingthe horizons thing.
What's your light setup? I realise 6500k curly cfls will work. Is anything better or multi bulbs for a better spread/intensity? What about distance from chambers/tubs?
Didn't you say to noob it up?

I hope that was in this this thread. I've been dabbling in a different harvest.

That does look easy. At this point I would be using a spore syringe. Just a drop would do it, I take it? In the future, I like the idea of cloning with a LC, there's a tek by creamcorn on shroomery that looks simple as hell and sounds like it would give an unlimited supply indefinitely.
Also, when transferring the colonized agar, how much are you transferring? Thanks again.
Never tried doing LC but I know if you can manage to keep it from getting contammed you would be able to make a shit-ton of spawn with it. Agar is so easy I just do that. I find 3 transfers to be enough:
usually the first plate will have visible contams so you pull a tiny piece from the clean white myc with an exacto knife or scalpel and transfer again. The 2nd plate will usually grow out clean but just to be sure you transfer one more time and then let them both grow out a bit to see if they go bad. Then you can just drop wedges or whole plates onto grain. Once you know you've got clean grain spawn you can to grain to grain transfers to make literally endless amounts of spawn.
I had bad luck noccing agar with a syringe. It worked better for me dripping a drop of spore solution onto a sterile cotton swab from the syringe and then streaking the plate.

Yes 6500 cfls are ok but I get better results for larger monotubs from a cheapass shop light fixture with HO bulbs. They are the same 6500 kelvin color spectrum it's just the bars spread the light out wider. I have run dual monotubs under it and could probably have 2 more if i wanted to. You could even do just one CFL over each tub spaced maybe 12" above the tub. You don't even really need a light you could just have them in a room that gets indirect sunlight.
