Sometime when i have nothing better to do, i'll start designing things in sketchup.. What i enjoy the most is designing different styles of custom stealth grow boxes that functions as a something else.. I Don't know if anyone else does this, but if you do show off your design.

This is one i've done that took me an hour to make. I Have made many complicated designs, but this isn't one of this.. I've since lost all the others.

The door was designed to hold itself in place. Some Strip magnets around the edges where needed should seal the front up. This is probably will be the next one i'll build

What would be more interesting, using Mental Ray as renderer (it's available in most popular software, like Maya), or one with similar photon-tracing abilities.

It's been ages since I used Mental Ray, but I remember trying to model a HID-light, with correct spectrum and all. I could trace millions of photons, measure how strong they were when they hit the foilage of the plant (and where it came from, which reflector-design spreads light better ect).

Someone with the skill to program Mental Ray, and use a renderer, could do us all a big service.
I'm talking about hard fact numbers, regarding optimal light distance, reflector shapes, how the light spectrum change as it goes through the plant, how much PAR-correct-lumen is at each inch of the plant etc.

Imagination is the limit, as Mental Ray is capable of simulating physical photons. But you need to be a programmer.

SketchUp is so garbage. I tried using it and I really don't like it.
Sketchup is pretty decent once you get the hang of it. It's not the best obviously, but it gets the job done. On that note, it looks like i posted this in the wrong section. It was meany for the Grow Room Design & Setup.. Mods, can you move this for me?

Catia is great engineering software. But who needs to over engineer a simple project?
That's why i mostly use SketchUp. I can get very complicated with my designs in sketchup, but rarely do. I Feel like SketchUp is mostly designed for quickly 'sketching out' a simple project. If this was going to be a production model where every nut, bolt and other hardware counts, i would use something else. But this design would qualify as a weekend project and there is no need to make it complicated, just correct dimensions.

I Haven't use Maya in ages, and Mental Ray was very difficult for me. I never could get past the novice level lol.
