Should I use a heavy duty adapter and is this timer good?

Hi, I'm considering buying a heavy duty adapter which allows me to have 5-6 items plugged in, however I want to know if there is any point spending more money on a heavy duty one if its safe to use a normal one.
carbon filter, lights, ballast, fans, and anything else will be plugged in to the adapter, and the adapter will then be plugged in to the mains.

Also how does the timer work?, do I plug that in to the adapter ... I think its a timer which turns everything off. Will it cause a problem for the plants if the fans are off during the dark?...

Timer:

Thanks

I had a few cheap timers burn out(they came free with the 400w hps kit). Anyway, went to Lowes and bought a 2 outlet timer for my lights, fan, and ballast without any problem. Its like $7 bucks for the cheap 1 outlet one or $12-15 for the next step up basic timer. Works for me problem free on last grow and now for the past 10 weeks on this grow. Make sure you use at least 14 guage wire on extension cords and the such because that's probably the wire guage in your home. You may want to run the carbon filter on a seperate circuit if it is big. At least if your wires are rated to the wall wiring, you'd probably just throw a circuit breaker if your running too many things on one circuit.I use a dual mh/hps 400w ballast with fan and I believe it has a slow start to avoid the sudden start-up surge. This is the timer I have and no problems yet. Used quite a bit, but they can go sometimes, but its still doing its job day in/day out: http://www.lowes.com/pd_224879-207-TM09DHBL2_0__?productId=3278547&Ntt=outlet+timer&pl=1&currentURL=?Ntt=outlet+timer&facetInfo= I also have a strip outlet plugged into one of the timer outlets for multiple light cords. Better off getting the one posted above by another poster here. I just keep it down in costs and get away with the one at lowes...
