SHOULD I SWITCH TO LEDs? WHAT ARE THE PROS AND THE CONS?

Hey everybody I'm pretty new here to this website, but I have been growing for quite a while but anyways I'm currently growing with CFLs and id say it's time to upgrade to a more professional grow light. So I've been debating if I should switch to LEDs for a while but I'm not to sure how good they will work with the limited space I have.. I currently using a 2x2x3ft grow tent so does anybody know how much wattage would be ideal for this amount of space? I plan on growing either 2 plants or try growing about 5 plants but start them 12/12 from about a week or 2 after sprout. Any information would really help. THIS IS JUST FOR PERSONAL SO IM NOT WORRIED ABOUT GETTING POUNDS.

This would probably do you well. 90w GrowSmart 135, full spectrum COB. covers roughly 4sq ft. Or 2sq ft under bloom spectra.

I'm doing my first run with this light. 20160927_122412.jpg

In a 2X2 area you'll want 250-375 actual PPF. TASTY led is a good place to look. If looking to DIY check out the quantum boards as recommended earlier.

Every time since 2008 I looked into them, read the reviews I learned something. They all say, in a somber tone, "led's are getting better, dont judge too harshly"

a refractometer will show you led truth

Just to show you another grow under LED.

It's probably fekkin tiny. But it's my first, indoor, COB run. 13cm high by 22cm wide. I mainlined to 6 heads. And it looks like it has about 25 bud sites. About 5 weeks into flower. (Mystery bean)

I would advise going LED in your tent, mainly due to energy consumption and heat. Something in the 200 watt range would be great. I advise you to grow 3 plants to give you better odds on success, and forget about the 5. DEFINITELY don't start the 12/12 until 3 week minimum, and 4 weeks better because you will only get teeny tiny buds, and it will be a waste of time in my opinion. Good luck

Most of those single chip lights are on their way out. People have gotten good grows from them but they are electricity hogs at if really good, 25 % efficient. Modern COB based lights like those from Northern Growlights, Tasty LED, etc will, for a little more money, give you a far superior light thats 45-60% efficient depending how hard you run it.

Check out the threads on those Quantum boards. THEY look to be the way to go especially in small spaces, you could start with one and have a grow CFL never gave you. Two? Ohhh yeah! Take the time, check them out! I've got one on the way for my breeding tent.

What's the link the circle LED light you have there? I'd really like to check it out also how many actually watz are used?

The Amare SE-250 would be perfect for that space. Has the option to veg too.
But some other good ones are Tasty, Johnson, & PLC.
Pros over cfl are many. Cons are upfront cost is allot more. But 1/2 your first grow w/ them should cover the purchase.
I'd stay clear of burple.
