Should i ph my water jus for watering or jus use tap water

Hi Guys

Should i ph my water jus for watering or jus use tap water
im currently growing in potting mix i was told to use from 5.5 to 6.5.
but i jus wanted to know if you only have too ph the water when i use nutes :?.

my tap water ph is 7.4 to 7.6 im not sure of the PPMs
as i dont have a PPM meter yet but i will get one in time

thanks in advance

To ensure proper nutrient uptake, both the water and soil should be tested and stabilized. It would be possible to get awat with using regular tap water, but without knowing the ph exactly it is an unknown variable, and that will make it harder to troubleshoot if something does go wrong. Hope that helps.

How could i go about testing my soil?

i bought one of them soil ph testers but i didnt think it worked ?
it looked like this

i was told that i could test the run of water from the pot but im unsure of how to do that,
do i make a mud and test it with the Digital Ph meter i Have . and would that be a correct reading

thanks in advance

i've got a couple of outdoor plants in mg soil and i water them with a water hose just like the rest of the vegtable garden. i don't worry about the ph in soil grows and i've had great results. took me a few grows to figure out to get back to the basics and quit over feeding and over caring. KISS=keep it simple stoner

Thats great advice. It's a weed and too many people have turned it into rocket science. Anyone can grow weed if they just avoid the stupid mistake of caring too much for the plants.

Hi Danny :)

The PH probes are more or less useless ...I got one and took it back as it was not reading anything :)
To test your runoff ... just water till you get a run of water flowing from the bottom of your pot and use a PH tester on a sample of that water :)

And to answer your question .... Its a matter of choice ...some people dont care to much about PH for water and others are anal about it ...The best way to do it is just read your plants and see how they react to unballenced water and make adjustments when needed :)

I PH my water to 5.8 and as yet not tested any runoff ... but my plants are happy and thriving ... If its not broke dont fix it :)

Hope that helps a bit :)

I have one of those, and being suspicious to see if it even worked or responded to anything.... I get a couple cups of dirt, with drainage holes in the cup. One I water with vinegar, the other with a spoon of baking soda in the water. These are extremes.. but at least you know the meter does something.

Also testing run-off water and making sure the two readings somewhat match will give you an idea how crap, average, or decent your soil meter is.

If your mediums ph is good I wouldn't worry about the ph of your water. My tap water is 8.0 and my medium is good. I have no problems giving them water with a high ph. And checking the run- off in my opinion is a waste of time.
