I have a couple plants that have been flowering for about 5 weeks now. the buds near the top look good but the buds near the bottom are small and scrawny. the buds on top are turning redish and are about an inch tall.

should i harvest the top buds and then wait for the lower buds to form and mature? is this okay for the plant? any advise please!

What kind of strain are using that could possible be ready in only 35 days. Check the trichromes. Are they cloudy with some being amber. I doubt they are ready. I have heard of people doing this method with purple strains. Usually at about 8 weeks they cut all the tops of the plants and allow the lower undernieths to flower for another 3 days to a week. This helps the bottom obtain the purple color. I havnt done it yet but I want to.

i don't know the strands. i wasn't planning on harvesting it now, but was just wondering if it was okay to cut the top buds earlier than the lower buds (when top buds mature). i was wondering if this was okay and how flushing would work in this scenerio.

i was told by an expert grower from where i live that if you do that, that the plant will try to heal itself which will set back the flowering a week possobly two depending on how much you cut off. I guess you can tell...

yeah you can do that.

I've done it once.. gives the lower buds time to catch up and get nice and fat and dense.

not a bad idea.

peace.

You can chop the top, then let the rest baste in the light for longer, but like some have said, that will cost you about 1-2 weeks more for what I see as a minimal gain in bud weight. Your smaller buds at the bottom will gain SOME weight, but I would rather just cut the whole thing down when the trichs tell me to. Put new plants in to flower, instead of keeping those small buds in there for 2 more weeks, and you will be 1-2 weeks closer to your next harvest.

As you get better at what you do, you will probably choose to prune your plants more carefully before flowering, so that you can minimize the under layer of buds (shaky stuff) and maximize the top layer with all the light. The top layer will end up being a better canopy, and you will enjoy trimming a LOT MORE!

Just cut off any offshoots that are too far down the plant to get sufficient light. Try doing this with half of your plants, and leave the other half the way you used to do it. After this experiment, you will never go back to all that duffy stuff at the bottom of the plant.

Personally, I'd rather do a selective harvest and let my bud mature properly...
