Shopping for new bulbs...for my lumatex...advice?

I can tell you I've had repeated problems with Hortilux MH bulbs on Lumatek ballasts. For some reason the bulbs don't ignite consistently, it's a real pain in the ass. The Hortilux HPS bulbs -- I never had a problem with them on Lumatek ballasts.

I don't think either product is inferior, I think it's a compatibility issue.
The site I bought my lumatek from said on the ballast info page that they did not recommend using them as well due to customer complaints.

lots of lumatek users it seems. no one uses phantom? i really like the auto dim feature. turns a 1k into a 750 or 600 automatically after warm up every light cycle. with lumatek you actually need to use different lamps if you want to adjust the wattage down.

correct and same here. but anything above the 400w including the hps like a 600 or 1000 could have issues too they are designed specifically for mag ballasts, this why they made a special ballast that runs AC elec converted into more stable square wave DC thus the higher price for the ballast:)
i use a 400w hortilux hps in my lumatek no problem though.

most believe Hortilux bulbs should not be used with digi ballasts...thoughts?
says right on the box anymore, e ballast compatible( magnetic or digital ballast), now two years ago it was a different story but I never had a problem running hortilux with a digital, there is only hortilux in my book.

they dont auto dim. if you want to use a lamp that is a higher wattage at a lower wattage setting, you have to manually dim them after 100%. if not the gases dont mix properly. lumatek users that are using a 1 k bulb with their ballast set at a lower wattage are using their ballasts/bulbs incorrectly. it may be "working" but not how its designed. you cant get around warming the bulb up before dimming it.

edit: gonna go back and check if the new lumateks are different. i will correct it if im wrong.

edit2: of course they dim. but what they dont tell u is that u have to manually switch that knob everyday. or you can use different bulbs and not worry about dimming them. or you can say fuck it and not worry about using your bulbs right.

I ran the same hortilux on a welthink 1kw digital(some would call it cheap chinese knock off but I'd tell them most are) for two years without a problem, I just now replaced that one but really didn't need to quite yet even though a few of you would tell me to change out every other cycle . no need and that would be quite expensive with hortilux.

mine does, I just bought it about a month ago though, and like I said the other box sitting right next to it is over 2 years old and I ran it on a the digital mentioned above without fail. good stuff. welthink and hortilux, I'm running a phantom now though so phantom and hortilux, so far so good.

someone has obviously had some issues with the hortilux in digital ballasts since the label change does indicate something was up, says new improved and then mentions the digital and barium free. but again, like I said, I ran this other one (without the new label) without one problem ever.
