i have a couple of these in my lawn and i have no idea what they are. look kinda like mushrooms or a fungus.

That's called a Lantern Stinkhorn. It's a type of fungus. They are slimy and usually smell of fresh dog shit. They attract flies to transport their spore.

Hmmm. I'm seeing a lot of those and they are almost cool except they stink the worst smell I ever smelled.
