sexing plants 5 weeks in.

hey everyone, so i was talking with an oldschool grower who lives by me. he starts all his plants from seed each season and finishes them outside but i asked him what he does about males in his crop because its a pain to keep checking over and over again right when they start to flower and he says that he has a small box at home where he starts the seedlings and sexes them. from what he described it goes like this. you start the babies and put them into the box and give them 24 hours of light every day for about six weeks/til they're of reasonable height. then when you think they're ready you push them into flowering by switching to 12/12 for about a week which he says is enough time for them to develop sexually therefore making their gender apparent. obviously the males go to the compost and the females get left in the box and then you blast them back into vegging by giving them 24/0 for another week or two. has anyone heard of this and if so how has it worked out for you? anything helps

Too much work, just simply wait until the plant starts to mature (branches go uneven) then look at the 7th ode behind the leaf spur and there will be the sex. I just pulled this feller out take a look. He was 11" high and the branches just started going asymmetrical. These pictures are taken at the 7th node. If she showed female I would of veged her for another 3 weeks.
