Hey can I flower my plants (12 - 12) and then determine sex and then take one female to become a mother and put her back into veg? Is this possible?

I believe it is possible but will cause a shock period of 2 weeks or so. Also due to light change may turn hermi and than you could get seeds. There are many alternatives to sexing without flowering the entire plant. Like taking clones, and either letting them root and than put into 12/12 or straight into 12/12. Personally I would not do what you are suggesting. Some may say it is perfectly fine and others the opposite. I would think alot of it has to do with the gentics of the strain. Plenty of info here on RIU about your question.
The plant will show sex when it is mature enough to do so. It won't matter if it's under 12/12 or 24/0. I recommend to veg em till you see preflowers then get clones of all the girls. The flowering makes all the difference in choosing a mum. That plus you'll lose a months time on the reveg. Gotta be patient man. I also recommend you top em early and often. Then you can flower the seed plant and be veggin the clone til harvest.

Our grow area wont allow them to be veged until preflowers because we have only 48" high room. I was gonna flower them when they get to a foot. When do preflowers emerge?

I agree in part with ES but plants with female preflowers sometimes wind up being males plants. Let me try to find an excerp I posted earlier...
I didn't say anything about keeping hermies.

veg till u can see sex takes anywhere from 4-7 wks
