Serious germination and seedling issues.

Hey everyone. I'll try to keep it short and sweet. 1. I use the paper towel mehtod to germinate my seeds and I have germinated 100% of those I have tried. With that being said I usually let the tap root get about 1/4 of an inch. The past 4 seeds I have put in soil have NOT sprouted. I am wondering what I am doing wrong because I am beginning to get frustrated. I always put it, tap root down, about a pinky nail deep in soil and put a handfull of water on top. Then, when I come back a couple days later, they have nots sprouted. And, when I uncover the dirt from the top, I find the seed with the tap root completely dead and sometimes, unattched. Please guys I need some help.

maybe your too tough taking the seeds from the wet towel paper?

This is a possibility. I have another theory too. Does the seed have to be "cracked" to a certain extent. Do you use tweezers to get yours out of the paper towel?

yes i use tiny tweezers to pick it up by teh seed

id imagine the seed does need to be cracked a fair bit as its only little tiny baby leafs that have to do the rest of the work to push it off

i like to start my seeds in a starter soil that has little to no ferts in it

I'm 7 for 7 with regular tap water and FFOF. I stick my thumb in the soil about nail length, drop in my seed, spray it, carefully put soil over it, spray it and let the water leak down and about 3 days later they crack soil.

I just did that for a Rocklock, Cole Train and South African Kwazulu 3 days ago, they're all about an inch tall now Good luck, I tried the paper towel method and the 'put them in water till they sink' method with no luck. Been 100% with mother natures method, water and dirt

Great post man. By spray you mean water, correct? And do you put them under CFL's? The Sun? HPS?
I just put 3 seeds in soil and put it outside hahaha

Yes, at first I used my premix seedling water (very mild seedling nutrients) with a ph level of 6.0, these last 3 seeds from Attitude I used regular tap water and got the same result.

I put them straight under a 200w cfl in my veg room and 18/6. If my temps are good I usually turn on my other 2 26w cfl's. Good luck.

Good stuff man, can't thank you enough. I'll post what happens in the next couple of days. Would you say you average about 3 days till it breaks soil?

I gave up on all those other methods a few weeks ago after having mixed results, since then most of my seeds have cracked soil no longer than 4 days after going straight into soil + water. I also use humidity domes (I cut the bottom of water bottles) for about a week to 10 days after they crack soil

The only soil I've used is FFOF

nice man they look good! how far along are all of those?

I have everything from 1 day olds to a 9 or 10 week clone... I'll try to update their age with pics in a few days

I was having a lot of sprouting issues as well, and when I changed my mix to 40% Vermiculite, I started getting sprouts in about 3 days, after soaking in water for 12-24hrs and dropping into soil, regardless of popping or not. I actually believe that getting a taproot going out of soil is not a good idea. I had one that died with a taproot in the soil too, - - -I think they werent getting enough air down there. Good luck!
