selecting a dehumidifier?

any tips on selecting dehumidifier, cost range and power consumption.

back ground: 80 plants flower room, well ventilated 50% pre dehumidifier.

I would suggest something with a big enough reservoir to hold the water accumulated during the night cycle. So you don't have to worry about it shutting off while the lights are out. But seeing as how your room is at 50% humidity, it doesn't seem to be a big problem so I would just go with whatever reasonably priced one you come across.

This is what I use in a room that is 9x12x9. http://www.avantgardegadgets.com/sd-40e.html. It is more than sufficient for my room of 4 1000w air-cooled HPS/MH lights, with 16 plants in 7 gallon containers. If heat is also an issue for you you might want to consider a stand-up A/C. It doubles as a dehumidifier. I don't know what climate your in, but I'm in Northern California and it is more than sufficient for me. I might also comment that I also have a A/C as well in my room. But during the cold season it has not been much more then a fan. It would seem that my dehumidifier is doing all the work. Since the rez on my A/C has yet to fill up in a week.

A big bag of rock salt will lower RH. Costs about 5 bucks at Home DePot, and does not use any power.

true but would it be able to bring down the humidity from 6 20 gallon rez's? Or are we talking one rez and 6 plants?

The stuff does have limitations. My room is 240 cu. ft. (4x8x7) I have 5 10 gal. tanks. When I first put some salt in the room my rh was at 59% 2 hours later it was 48%. I have 2 cookie trays with salt spread on them in the room. If I used more I might get a better drop. Im still experimenting with the stuff.

my room is outside with no ac or heat but from the bulbs and my temp gets low as 60 and high as 80 but hum is always around 30- low 40 in flower

how did you stumble on this? and how often are you changing the tray contents? how do you know when to change them?
