Seedsman Sugar Haze?? Anyone?

I just came across this on Herbies. Looks interesting.
Has anyone heard anything about it or even better grown it???

Here is some of what they say about it:

[h=2]Seedsman Sugar Haze Seeds Specs
[/h]
Genetics:
Santa Marta x Haze
Variety: Mostly Sativa
Type: f1 Hybrid
Harvest Date: October
Flowering Period: 9 weeks
THC Content: 23%
Characteristics: Sweet tasting cerebral haze

In our Sugar Haze we have crossed a Santa Marta with Original Haze, one of the Skunkman’s most famous creations. The result is a fast flowering sativa dominant haze strain with a THC potential of around 23%. This strain has a sweet taste but is a heavy hitter and not recommended for the occasional user.

Through our selective crossbreeding techniques we have managed to reduce the flowering time on this strain to below almost all other haze strains, so much so that it can be grown outdoors in places, and should finish by the end of October.

I am looking for a nice Sativa that I could try out. I really would like some more Sativa highs versus the couchlock of so many Indicas. Something not too big and that doesn't have a 12+ week flowering. I'm a newbie so I don't want to go too difficult either.

If anyone has any thoughts about strains to try I would love to hear your ideas.

I see all of these comments in the threads where people talk about "good sativas" and "bad sativas" but they never explain what they are talking about!!

What is a good sativas?!?!?!?

Once I have finished a couple grows to build up a bit of a stash I would like to try out a pure sativa or high % sativa. It would be trained a lot and have its growth controlled, but I could take the time to let it grow and slowly flower. But need help to figure out what strains to try. The seed banks and breeders are not really all that helpful seeing as they are trying to sell all of the seeds they have.

How do you pick a Sativa strain???

Ive grown out the sugar haze, it took quite a while to finish, which i was told by the breeder that i got the 14 week haze pheno. It was more hazey than santa marta but damn it was good smoke. Mine hermied on me outside as we had a week of colder weather. Didnt affect the smoke at all though. It was a massive plant too, i got 11oz off one plant in a 5 gal pot! Very sweet smelling and had very thick buds! The thread in my sig has some pics somewhere in the last 15 pages i think :)
Overall, i'd definitely grow it again!! Especially if i got the shorter 8-9 week pheno :)

Thank you for the response Eastcoastmo. I really appreciate it.

How long did it actually take if you got the longer pheno? +6months I assume. Closer to 8?
11 oz from a 5 gallon pot is very nice. Anything I grow outside would be directly in the ground with lots of amendments added into big hole and raised bed. Might as well do it right in the first place. I likely would not be able to produce as much just given climate differences. I get cold weather and rain.

Did you just plant the one?

I will definitely check your thread. Thanx!!

Hey man, no probs with the info :)

All up it took 7 months and it didnt really start to bud until the last 2 months! I thought it was going to go a lot longer but it finished real quick once the temps started to drop. Just watch the temps, if you get a cold snap of 20-25 degrees during summer it may hermy as it is a semi tropical strain im told. Well worth growing though mate.
Yeah i just grew the one too :)
I reckon if you put it in the ground early (if you dont get frosts in late spring) it will give you over 11oz ;) i started mine in october here and picked at the end of april and was lucky no early frosts!!

Nice.
So how do you think it would do in a greenhouse??
I could use one that has a 7' height. Could only fit a couple plants but it might be fine. It certainly would keep the temps and humidity up.

It sounds nice!

Its funny how things go in life.
Here I am with lots of space. Good ground to grow in. A couple different types of manure and composts in volumes to grow food enough to feed a town...
And it is likely going to be the length of my growing season that will keep me from growing what I want...

Time to work on the greenhouse I guess.

Good thing I have one that can be up and running in just a couple of days if needed. I have a mini going right now to test out the design. As long as it survives the winter I will be ready to go in the spring. The only real question is going to be what kinds of temps can the young plants handle???

A truly early planting in a greenhouse is going to mean outside temps in the -5 to 10 Celsius range. Now there are ways to mitigate this a bit with double walls, water tube covers, heat sinks, etc... But I don't know that that will be enough a nice little Sativa like Sugar Haze. All I can really do is try it out and see. If nothing else it will be fun to do. We do grow tomatoes like this.

If I pop 3-4 strains and start them in little pots inside then transplant into the greenhouse (with the mentioned safeguards in place) when the temps are consistently above 0 celsius overnight... I would at least find out which strains will do well in this cold climate. I like to breed and collect seeds so I will be breeding anything that can handle that kind of treatment without going hermie on me. Usually it only take a couple generations to acclimate for lots of plants. I've gotten Zone 5-6 plants to grow in a Zone 3 area in the past at other places I lived. I figure the same can apply.

Seedsman has his own bank...decent prices and you don't pay that lousy VAT (20% retail tax) if your ouside of Europe. Because some sativas can take you late into Fall you need to find what time of year your area hits the dew point on most nights. Saw a outside grow that was a jungle reduced to crap because of a mold/fungus attack...the temps would drop and the moisture would be still on the plants as late as 11 am and whatever (Serious strain) it was didn't stand up to mold.

Nasty!!

That is a hard one to handle. For me it is more likely to be risk of and early frost in September. Hence the Greenhouse idea. It is hard to be certain in this part of the world what you will get. I have seen temps stay up in the 15-30 range through September, but also below 0. Could all be within a couple days as well.

Thanks for the thoughts. Both the Sugar Haze and the Mexican Sativa seem like decent options to try out. There are always others to try if the first ones don't succeed. That is a definite joy of growing this amazing plant.

Hey bud, sorry for the late reply, been away for a few days! Cheers for the rep too man!!

Damn, you get frosts on early fall (fall is autumn isnt it?) yeah? Im lucky we dont get frosts till mid to late autumn so still have an extra month to 6 weeks if we are lucky.

The breeder told me that the 13-14 week pheno i got was a rarity as he'd only witnessed it once, the strain is supposed to be a really early finishing sativa, the santa marta in the mix has shortened the flowering and it is definitely present in the strain in taste and high! I reckon you'd get get away with a greenhouse for sure, definitely start them inside with a heat mat. To create humidity, you could also use a vaporiser (asthma one, not smoking implement lol). Never hurts to try man, or you could always go with C99 from mosca or female seeds, its a 7-8 week indoor sativa and hits like a truck, almost trippy too :D

Ya sorry. Fall=Autumn. I use both terms. Ours is variable in the weather. Can be warm and dry some years. Cool and wet others. And some can be very cold. You just never know. I have had plants get caught outside and froze with summer flowers still on them.

If the breeder is right about the 14 week being the rarity that would be very nice. Would make it much easier to grow. I have looked at the C99 a little. I'm not sure if that is what I want or not. Possibly I'll have to give it a try. The speed of growth and flower is appealing, not to mention the size.

Yeah sweet as man, we're both talking the same language :)

I'll definitely be running the strain again at some stage, i'd love to get the shorter flowering pheno myself...and they're friggen cheap beans too which helps :)

They really are a nice price. I'm havin a hard time not buying them right now even though I have no need for more beans. If even one more person comes on here and has good experience with them I'll probably cave and buy them immediately.

I haven't grown sugar haze but I did grow seedsman white widow and it is a very nice strain. It's a nice mix of sativa/indica high. When smoked it you get a nice buzz behind the eyes, giving you a nice mental state, but at the same time you have a nice tingling feeling through out the body and legs. Definitely a mid day smoke to wind down but not fall asleep.

That sounds nice!

I broke down and bought em.
I'm weak!!

Picked up the Sugar Haze of course.
Added the Mexican Sativa...
Then had to go for more. Added the Golden Tiger regs, and a Malawi fem for good measure.

I officially have too many beans now!
