Seeds, do you really get what you pay for?

So what is the deal? There are seeds that you can purchase online for 15 US dollars, and then there are seeds that cost $400! These ten pack of seeds must be very different in quality correct? Or, are the well known strains blown up to create a high end market for the connoisseur? Who has a take on this, and you better state if you have any connection with the seed bank that you spray about! Let's hear what everyone has to say about under priced and potentially over priced marijuana seeds...

I thought the same, then decided il never know if i dont try it. I ordered some cali orange, top44 and some Durban P. Seeds germinated faster than i have ever had and they seem to have good genetics so far. BTW i ordered these from Nirvana the so called cheaper seedbank. Its cheaper because they are F2's. Hope this gives some insite. Peace

Take Mandala for instance, they state that there seeds are F1's, and they don't cost more then 30 bucks for a ten pack....

there still not done, germed seeds may 18th and they will be done within the month so about 3 1/2 months. never tried any other seed banks but you can find always find a mom plant that is a true keeper resin, density, smell and taste are all great and for that price. I've heard some people complain about hermies and other problems but i never had any. goodluck in making your choice.

Are you refering to Nirvana, or mandala? Sorry I think I am having a hard time understanding people tonight! Very Medicated...lol

i know people who travel to differant seed shows are what ever they are called, and purchaced seeds to bring home, they have claimed that the same seeds purchased over the net from the same companies were differant from the ones at the seed distributer or shows.i know in canada with the new restrictions,it has gone under ground and stuff happens, ive heard horror stories from the good and the cheap.but some people think that if it costs alot it has to be good.some seed breeders are in love with their work others are in love with money,it is like all businesses.

Everyone seems to look at the price of seeds all wrong. everyone seems to have this crazy notion that seeds are stupidly expensive.

So you get nirvana seeds, you can get these for around 40 bucks a pack, I've grown a number of different strains from nirvana mostly their white strains. They haven't put much work into their genetics and are the equivalent of a marijuana knocking shop pumping out 1000s of low price seeds, they are so cheap because they dont put as much money into breeding and devloping strains.

Price 40 bucks

Then you get your decent quality genetics, these come from seedbanks like mandala (from hearsay) flying dutchman and other such seed banks, they offer quality genetics at a slightly higher price than nirvana, they produce their own strains of reasonable quality.

Price 50 - 100 bucks

You then get the top end seedbanks, these put work into their genetics win cannabis cups and other awards with their genetics that they have spent time developing searching out pheonotypes and trying to make the strongest and most consistent strains. Breeders that fall into this category would be serious seeds, th seeds, sensi and others like them.

Price 80 - 200 bucks

Then theres the cool strains, these strains have been developed from a clone only strain, they may have been backcrossed and sometimes they are not entirely stable but they can have amazing qualities.

price 50 - 240 bucks.

That leaves one category left, the ones that have clearly tried to overprice their seeds in order to look like they are good, pukka seeds has this category to themselves, stay away at all costs, they have fancy descriptions and nice pictures but it doesnt do what it says on the tin.

Price 60 - 900 bucks

When buying from nirvana or someone like them, your just buying some seeds to grow a plant that may be nice.

When buying from a higher quality seedbank with more exotic strains that comes with a higher price tag, its more like a franchise, you are paying to own that high quality strain. So they cost 200 bucks, if you get 5 females thats 40 bucks a seed. So you grow your 5 females, you take 10 clones and flower the females, you've got the strain still and you can keep it for as long as you want to.

Think about it this way, would mcdonalds sell you the option to provide yourself with something from their menu permanently for 200 bucks.

he has a point... a pretty kick ass point... I however purchesed my seeds in person but at a seed bank while on vacation... they were from Will Jack (Good? Bad?) they cost 110 USD for 10 seeds... only 3 weeks into growing started 6 plants now have 4... ... plan on breading them if I have a male this way if anything crazy happens I should still have some decent seeds...

Nice post NGT, I heard the other day that in places where it is legal to grow out doors, the genetics are stronger and more stable because of out door breeding. Anyone have an opinion on this?

I would think it would be oposet since any male polen blowing around get fuck any bitch he gets his hands on... but other than that I think that would be true

Good point, I really did not think of that! What a great site we have here..You guys rock..

yea I know I am pritty kick ass right... lol yea this sight kicks some really big ass like bigger than cartmans big fat ass... no it isn't you guys

Well to be honest I only read first page of this thread, but my input would be, there is a difference in the price and quality for some websites. Usually you get what you pay for, but not always, be careful for people trying to make a buck off you. Also most seedbanks have reviews that you can read, those help alot.

In the end, no matter how expensive the seeds are, if you have a successful harvest, you will have made more then your money, and have had a great time making it to : ) .
Start with some less expensive seeds, and work your way up the more expeirenced you get.

Much love to you guys <3 Grow on growers : )

Back to the out door breeding for a Sec. So the theory brought to the table is "The sun is the greatest light source we have, and so, no artificial lighting that we have come up with can compete, so, therefore the seed production, and maturity can not be paralleled by indoor lighting..." Any thoughts?

I think that again is both thrue and not... Of cource we cant dublicate the sun... But I believe we eventualy can duplicate the light that the earth recieves from the sun... But I dont think even the "natural sunlight bulbs" give off the same spectrem of light and or the same nutrients and other things. And I think with enough bulbs you can blind a person in a second... So I'v stared at the sun for like 10 seconts before and I still se fine... So I think we can match the lumen output but again not like the sun... It would only be able to light a small area but yea...

we can make fusion plants right, there light output should be damn simaler to the sun?
maybe not cost effective.
holy shit I'm high:joint:!

What about moon light we keep are plants in complete darkness at lights off why if there is moon light

At night im sure the moon light does somthing to out door growing that plats need im sure

If The sea ,tide time of day its planted, year, month , the way are planets orbit all effect plants or life in general
The moon light must do somthing to so why no light leeks or no night light
