Seedlings in light

Hey guys,

This is my first attempt at growing. I have a 1x1m hydro grow tent with 4 seedling currently under a 400w MH light. They've been under the light for about a week but haven't really change since. They are in rockwool which I have now planted into coco coir. They are currently on a 16/8 light cycle. The fan is also only running when the lights are on.
I have attached some pics.

Is it too early to start add nutes to these seedlings? At what point should I add nutes?

I read I should wait until I see first real leaves but what does that mean?

Any help will be appreciated.

definitely wait. as a newbie, get to know the deficiency and toxicity pictures as well as the pH of soil and the nutrient availability at particular level. You dont need to memorize it but its helpful to see what pH will do to nutrients and then what the def or tox looks like. When you get first real leaves, imo, is when the leaf gets 5 fingers. They will grow a fair amount more without any nutrients but i have dont use bottled nutrients soo maybe someone who has a more comparable grow will recommend a dosage for your first feeding. in the mean time, what kind of nutrients are you using? do you have a lower power bulb to use until they get a little bigger? that bulb would be heck on the power bill while just sprouting seedlings.

while you do this grow, pop into the organics section and have a look at what kind of crap people get away with in there. you'll be surprised and may convert.

Thanks for the info. To be honest I don't have anything to measure the pH at this stage. What other lights can I use in the meantime if this one is too strong?

Keep it simple, grab a bottle of Flora Nova Grow and Flora Nova Bloom. One for veg and the other for flower. Start at like 150ppm(hanna) at the end of this week.

my suggestion would be to switch your seedlings over to soil. a coco grow, especially for a first endeavor at this hobby requires research. soil--it's the easiest and most forgiving grow method if this hobby is something you are wanting to continue doing; it is nice having your own cannabis.

research cotyledon leaves as a start and then you'll start to understand some terminology. but in your picture for an example, you can see your babies have the cotyledon leaves and then another leaf set--the next leaf set that pops out would be considered the first "true leaf" for your plants. usually by two to four weeks, both of these first baby leaves will be gone.

400W is a bit overkill on the lights at this stage if you were just wanting to keep your babies under a T5 to save some electricity, you could do that for the first month or two and then switch over to MH. good luck with your grow!

I have some LED lights I can use. Will that hurt the seedlings? If i just leave it under LED lights for now until they grow a bit and then transfer them onto the MH?

What watt are they?

yeah thatll be fine. This isnt the biggest deal btw, you can use the 400w perfectly fine, just keep it high enough not to burn em. It's just that its more optimal to use less power cuz you'll save money on electric and not have to worry about stressing the babies from heat or light intensity.

Oh and your light cycle should be 18/6 not 16/8

In those pics give it 2-3 weeks until you give nutes at like 0.2 ec
