Seedlings, fungus gnats and hydrogen peroxide ?

My babies are just breaking ground and I have a gnat problem. I noticed my pepper plants weren't coming up so I dug them up and gnat larva all over them. I can only imagine what my babies look like. Despite the gnats they are still going strong. Can I use hydrogen peroxide on them? how much ( say a 16 oz party cup size of water) should I put in the mix. How often to water with it till the gnats are gone?

Anyone know if this will kill them of if it's fine to dose them? Bump

Sorry to hear that man. I had this happen before when I used miracle grow organic soil. I fought a gnat problem from day 7ish until harvest. I used every method there is, fly traps, hydrogen peroxide- dilluted and full strength, I sprayed gnats and fungus directly with pure hydrogen peroxide and they did nothing but squirm (for the worms) and fly away, I used neem oil, I tried starving the plants & gnats of water, cleaned the floors, etc etc.

Then I promised myself I'd never use that shit soil again. 2 years later I said hey I'll give the cheap soil a shot again and got the miracle grow organic. Around day 10 I had gnats. It sucked because there were a bunch of seedlings. Anyway, I threw everything in the trash, washed my pots with a water/bleech mix and also mopped the floors with the same stuff. I left the lights on for a week to dry up the area and fry anything that might remain. THEN I went and got the $20 bag of soil from the grow shop and never had that problem again.

My advice, toss everything and start over. You'll lose a few weeks and that sucks but you'll be much better off. UNLESS you're willing to fight the fight to the end and dont mind dead gnats stuck to your buds because that my friend is exactly what happens... not to mention the larva will start eating the roots when there is no more organic matter for them to eat.

Soil drench with mosquito dunks or gnatrol.

Bake your soil before use.

I forgot to mention I also used mosquito dunks. I don't recommend going that route at all.

stop bashing the soil mix the perlite into the soil before use . I have used that cheap soil with no issues I have used big lots soil no issues and pulled large yields . its not the soil . you need to let it dry out before watering . problem solved . if you cant because your pots are to small then you can put sand on the top layer of soil bugs hate sand . or can spray dish soap teaspoon per gallon water .and need oil or olive oil .. helps some . or change the soil and water correctly . or turn on a strong light let it dry up more quickly. nats are more common with cfl lighting then mh or hps . lights . because it takes a lot longer for the soil to dry. so mix in 50/50 perlite and your cheap mg evenly those nats will not come back . and wont have to worry about over watering .

I use house and gardens coco coir and the gnats didn't come from that I get all the time no matter what I do just that time of season. I usually just water lightly but with the cloning and the seedlings the humidity has been 65% and very moist in the veg room and now they are getting out of control. I just have to worry about the seedlings the mommas don't suffer from them.

So to the question will hydrogen peroxide kill my seedlings? Just an answer to that would be nice thank you!

idk . if hp will kill bugs or your plants will absorb it and form bubbles inside the plants . seriously suggest soapy water . over hydrogen peroxide if you don't want to use sand on top of the old soil . . I know people do use it to treat root rot as a very last resort and it usually don't help. I have been there and done that with those bugs .

As far as I know the peroxide will only kill the larva and not the adults. Right now ther is literally only 2 or 3 adults around so if I'm gonna get them it's gonna be now. I know how to control with the adults but was wondering if it would kill the seedling if I drenched the coco coir with the peroxide since they are so young. I would start over but I spent a good chunk of change on these seeds and I can't afford to loose them!
