I see advice from Subcool that says "plant the seed pointy end up", but the included picture seems to designate the blunt end as the pointy end ??

pointy bit down round part up isn't it? I'm sure the tap root cracks the point part and grows that way
its been a while since I popped any beans though

Just drop it in. If its not strong enough to break the surface then oh well. The root will grow down regardless of how you position it.

lol this is stupid. Ive put seeds pointy side up and the root grew strait up i put pointy side down and the root grew strait up WTF! just lay it on its side. If you think about it too much then it will never get planted.

Unfounded, non proved, misinformation. Seriously, why would it matter from indoors to outside?

Edit: Yes, the taproot first breaks through the pointy end of the seed, and yes it will push the rounded end up and out. The biggest issue is how deep your plant the seed, and how compact the soil is. If your using a good soil that isnt brick solid then it doesn't matter.

Wow,and I thought I was grumpy. I stated facts. I never said squat about post count, which if you look through other posts of mine, you will see I say the same thing.Post count means nothing, but quality and accuracy does. Get your panties out of a bunch, and go smoke a bowl or something. I know there are others more experienced than myself, and you for that matter. But hey, if you want to think that you have done, seen, and know it all, then that's cool, but if your going to say that your way is the only way, then get ready for a shit storm around this place.

To the OP, wait for more responses I guess. Read around a bit more on the stickies. You can find every possible answer with a bit of searching, and never take one persons advice till it has been confirmed to death.

If it's an Indica, the pointy bit goes east, and you water 5x a day. cn
Funny.

I just avoid the drama and plant the seed on its side. Worked well for close to 30 years. Some were even pointed east, but only watered once every 5 days not the other way around. LOL

It was frivolous of course. I imagine if a seed is viable, it doesn't matter much, or as much as proper planting depth, temp, moisture and humidity. Planting the seed on its side strikes me as an all'round good idea ... the root won't have to turn more than 90º no matter what. cn
