Seed maturity?

Its been a LONG time for me with breeding, but with outdoor seed production, should the seed pod start to split open as a general ripeness indicator? or not necessarily so? This was chosen to breed so not worried about past due buds. Although a different question can the remaining buds be used in edibles? or something?
Anyway, can anyone tell from photos? I still think it has another 10 days or so . Its a late maturing plant anyway,( Headband Cookies BX1 F2 ). Turned purple10 days ago up here in the Northern NY. 8 weeks will be end of October for reference.

first of all no photos. secondly seeds need 4-6 weeks to mature in general afaik and when they have stripes and mature color they are good to go. thirdly you can still smoke or make edibles from the plant ofc. i smoke my seed stock.

They are in week 7 and don't look ripe to me, but I'm definitely not a seed expert yet. Thanks. Oh, photos added.

Many Sativa will start dropping seeds without being touched, Many Sativa seeds are very small and some of the better I’ve had were tan or gray, smooth without stripes or any markings.
