Seed germination

It has been many years since my last grow. In the past I just put the seeds in some wet paper towel and in a few days they would be popped and ready for planting. I tried this again since it worked in the past but the seeds aren't popping. It has been almost a week and nothing. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong. The seeds are old but I didn't think that made a difference. Any suggestions? This is just bag seed, nothing special. Thanks

all i do is put i a small pot of compost (damp) put a clear bag over and there up in about 2-3 days, never fails,,,how old are they , and what colour are they , if there a light colour they may be a bit imature, your looking for a nice darkish brown?don't bother with all the tissue shit etc ,,, just put in compost with clear bag over,,,works every time,,, if there not popped in a couple of days , there's some thing wrong with the seeds,

Canna nailed it...some history of your seeds would be good ...as posted elswhere:
Place 2-3 seeds as a trail into a small match box type add some sand paper shake this scarifies them, for 1-2 minutes, then to a glass of water, with a half teaspoon of bleach at 25c/77f, ... find that on top of your modem or pc, or back of your fridge, even on an external drive...ANYWHERE, as temp is important, just leave them warm and wait 7-14 days if you must.
See the real deal here is that most growers just get the most popular seeds at the time, other you and me fuck the system up by ordering up market or expensive seeds, that means they dry out over time, as the cheaper younger and more germy seeds get sold first, 'ours' more expensive again dry out over time, and making the failure percentage far higher, many seed banks know this, and many work it not to your favor either ...hang in there !

I know it's the easiest part and I have never had this issue in the past. Perhaps these seeds are bad or too old or who knows. I have some good seeds, white widow, that I bought a while back. I may try those

if you try them don't bother with the tissue shit, just a bit of soil in a pot bag over warm place that's it, if they came in a bag you've not lost out cash wise have you , so happy days,

Age does have an impact on germination. Throw them in a shot glass with water for 24-48 hours then in paper towel.

Sometimes the shell needs assistance.
As to older seeds are hard which makes it harder to germinate. As to the shell will take longer to moisten whuch delay normal expected time. Thus i agree with everyone else. I have seeds that are hard. What i do is water the small container and let have good drainage before incerting the seed. And i always put the seed a dimes height beneath the surface and put in pitch blackness and keep it there until it sprouts. Soil must be warm and dampened to soften the shell for successful germination.

I totally agree thats how i do it accept for the bag. And ill try that because if you spray it for humidity it will keep the warm moisture flow. But i do agree about the seeds that are purchased makes alot of sense. The bleach i would never turn down that avenue. Not that im against that knowledge. I just cant stand bleach.:peace:

There is a science to all this germination you know...WTF...get some 1 gallon pots...put in some soil...soak this soil with water (and I mean WET!)...stick your bean in the center of each pot about to your first knuckle...cover said bean with soil...spray it daily to keep it moist...an the next thing you know....you have a room full of plants......................
