How’s it going guys?-

I just ordered a second light for my room. Currently have an 1000 HPS that’s covering 6 plants. I got a 600 HPS for a new 4 site rdwc.

Can I hang this second light from the same ceiling joist as the other one is hung from?

They would be about 8 feet apart. I have a stud finder.

I predrilled a (2)hole through the drywall ceiling and into the wood joists. I then screwed the heavy duty bike rack into the ceiling and that has been very sturdy. Was planning on doing same idea for this one. Is this bueno?

you can. What I did was run 2x4s over drywall along Joist so I don’t have use my stud finder every time I want to find the Joist . Makes life ez if you have to move your light over or around in the future

If you are worried about the load (weight) you won't have any issues so long as you do hit the joist. I once had a bolt that I thought was in the joist but it was on the edge of it and when I hung a heavy ballast from it BAM if fell. Damn thing was tough, still worked.

One this I like to do in such situations is get a stick of strut channel. Lag bolt that to the joists with some 5/16" lag bolts and washers. Now you can use the strut channel with a 1/4" eye screw, 1/4" x 1.5" fender washer, 1/4" nut and a 1/4" spring nut to hang whatever. Put the spring nut up first in the channel, then take the eye bolt and put on a 1/4" nut then the fender washer and screw the whole thing into the spring nut on the channel. Simply tighten the nut to fix position along the strut channel. The nut can be loosened and you can slide the eye hook anywhere along the channel, without even removing whatever is hanging. Easy to adjust position and hang other items. I usually cut the spring off the nut so it slides easier.

I forgot to mention, this method works really well for when you need to go perpendicular to the joists, or want to put a hook between joists. A simple 2x4 works but a piece of strut channel is a lot easier to adjust.

Another tip, when sliding your hooks along the strut channel, be careful the spring nut doesn't turn 90 degrees on you and slip out of the channel.

My carbon filter is way heavier than a couple lights and it’s holding off two hooks screwed into the joist. For my lights I put some 2x4 screwed to couple joists cause they were running the other direction.
