Ok so after some time I decided to go back and have another go - this time my babies have started outside in a greenhouse. I have the mindset this time that i stressed and fussed over them too much this time so I will be trying to take a more carefree approach to things but anything any of you experts can tell me from my pics and my updates i will gladly take on board - this is only my second medicinal grow after all.

Like i said my babies started life out in a greenhouse and have been grown from 2 batches of seeds - 2 white widow and 2 lemon haze plants (see below for which is which)

They were all moved to larger pots within a week of each other and at the moment they are approx 12 weeks old.

So let me introduce you to the girls (hopefully) - hope you like the names they are all named after my ex girlfriends - i hope they like the tip of the hat towards them but you can bet your life they wont :)

home sweet home.jpg - this is where they spend their days at the moment - 400w hps grow tent - temps around 74f - humidity around dry as fuck :)

claire.jpg ok so this is Claire, looking a lot taller and slimmer than the others (sorry girls) she is a lemon haze strain and is doing well I think but I do have a few concerns about how tall and "Stringy" she is looking

shelley.jpg and here we have shelley - shelley is a white widow and has recently been topped i have no concerns about her at the moment

lisa.jpg let me introduce you to Lisa - she is a white widow also and seems to be doing rather well i like the way she is growing at the moment

sian.jpg and here we have little Sian - only a little one this but due to a pot issue in the early days she spent more time in a smaller pot than the rest of them.

OK so you have met the girls and where they live so its over to you now - i will keep this thread as up to date as I can but with work and family commitments its not going to be updated every day.

One more thing to note is that they have only had the food that is in the soil from planting - i have not yet fed them anything in particular but that is due to change soon - i will be feeding them what i fed my first grow which is miracle grow all purpose which has npk of 17-9-11

so what do you guys and gals think ?

Cheers

Looks great so far! I am partial to Sian, sounds too much Asian, and I have a thing for Asians. lol..... Keep us updated, look forward to seeing how the gals turn out

Thanks I'll keep it as up to date as I can
I was thinking about going into 12\12 which is earlier than my last grow
Given the pics does anyone have any thought on doing this at this stage ?

ok no thoughts then - well i put them into 12/12 mainly because i was getting some ear grief off the wife for the noise of my setup - strange race wives :)

anyway ill get some more pics on tomorrow - one of them is getting fat !!!

check em out - filling out nicely - one of them has started showing the little hairs of a little girl so i am stoked so far - just waiting on the other 3 to show me their shit so i know what is happening but they have deffo filled out

be back soon with some more pics

Grow 2 getting fat.jpg

ok so i thought i would share the good news with you all (if anyone is following that is)

3 of the four are showing that they are little ladies.

Here they are

Picture3.jpgPicture4.jpgPicture2.jpgPicture1.jpg

i thought one of them was showing a ball sack but then i checked on her today and she has little white pistiles growing out of it so happy daze

i do however have another one - claire the big lemon haze not showing yet, and looking like she has signs of a sack forming but i may be mistaken so i was wondering if someone could post a pic of a pollen sack so that i could look at it and compare it to claire

i will keep you posted of any developments - as always let me know what you think and any comments / help is always welcome

Cheers

I'll watch the journal, i'd wait for little sian to get a little bigger before "clicking" the lights, although the others are a good size to get a few oz's a plant. Just make sure you have a good root system before flowering, you can usually tell how good the roots are by the size of the stalk. fat stalk equals lots of roots. As for sex, i just go from clone so I have never seen a pollen sack in my life. Those first three are female and the 4th pic is blury so I can't tell. From what i've seen, they are little balls vs. white hairs, shouldn't be too hard to tell the difference. if you have a small closet, get a few rockwool plugs and take a clone off of the lemon and the white widow (two each) and you can just keep them under a 23w t5 light till your ready for your next grow. You'll have 4 ladies ready to go next time around and it will save you a month or so.
Also, to maximize your lighting, try tying the other plants tops down while the small one catches up to create an even canopy, you want everything to be even. You can search things like LST, training, topping, FIM, SOG, SCROG to see techniques to get even canopy size. In your situation, its probably best just to tie some tops down on the bigger ones to limit height, then release them after the bottom shoot catch up.
Everything looks pretty good.

awesome advice thanks tree gear - i am looking into the techniques you mentioned now
going to get myself some string tomorrow and get pulling those ladies down
i still have one no show but the others are deffo showing pistiles so hopefully they are fems and not shemales :)
thanks again - check back soon for more updates

If you put a trellis up during veg, you can bend stuff around and its easier to get even before you go 12/12 but you can mess with during stretch still. Use those other techniques like topping etc only in veg though. I do a tray with 12 plants (6 each for my girlfriend and I so i'm at the CA legal limit), click the lights when the tray is half full and just grow it into one giant canopy, and train a single shoot into each hole. then you can trim the bottom tiny shoots that get no light at about two weeks cause you don't want half developed flowers and trimming those is just a headache anyway. Its basically a "scrog" grow with a small amount of plants. You may or may not want to trim the bottom stuff depending on how much your room fills in. That haze of yours is gonna be a monster, don't worry about the stringy look, thats just the sativa strain. Your gonna have to tie up the flowers at 40 days or so cause those strains stems won't hold the weight though. I'm having the same issue with some og fire and sour diesel now that i put in with a tray full of kryptonite (green crack x mendo purps), its stretching like crazy and i need to tie the stems horizontally, they've grown about 18 inches in the last 7 days. I should really just do the same strain to keep the canopy the same level but I can't help but to try a few new strains each time. I also have a purple trainwreck also but its staying about the same level as the krypto. Lets see some pics of your stretch to see how they're going.

as always thanks for the advice - the lemon haze monster stretcher is showing balls (i think ) here are some pics

Can anyone advise if i should chop her down :-( or should i wait a little longer ?

Thanks as always

tree gear - no when in flowering i use bio bloom which has worked out well on my last grow - have you had any experience of this product ?

Cheers

Looks like a male to me.

Haven't used biobloom, you should be aiming for a 1-3-2 ratio for flower with some good Mg. I googled the label and that looks good as a single product. Typically you should wait until stretch is done before pulling the veg nutes because the plant is using to ton of N to stretch but it doesn't matter too much. If you did switch and you're a bit low on N, you'll just see the bottom leaves yellowing a bit as it pulls N from the leaves indicating a slight N deficiency. Not ideal but not really a big deal either. You should be pretty much on autopilot from here out, just keep an eye on your RH and keep it under 50 if you can with some fans blowing for no molds/mildews.

treegear - firstly i would just like to say thanks for all the great advice - its great to have someone like you advising me in this way so its really appreciated.
So onto business :) - the male - should i get rid of him or should i keep him - i think he is the only lemon i have to be honest so even if he gives me a few buds i would like to try him out - is this me being daft or should i just bite the bullet and get rid of him ?

thanks again

the male will pollinate the females and then you'll have seedy crap on the rest of your plants. You're gonna have to bite the bullet. There really is no option of keeping it in that tent, it just needs to be out asap. If you do keep it elsewhere, make sure you don't transfer pollen by air, clothing or hands into your tent. Also, if you have a medical dispensary near you, it might make sense to drive down and get some clones next time around. You get guaranteed females then and don't have to deal with growing them from seed either. At 12 weeks you'd be about a week from harvest if you had started from clone, rather than still having 2 months to go and having to hack 25-33% of your garden. I can run about 12-13 weeks from start to finish (veg+flower) Its well worth the 10 bucks per stem. If you don't have access, just clone your plants before 12/12 next time and label them. Keep the females for the next round or start a "mother" you can take clippings from so you'll always have the same genetics. You can pretty much grow a mother in a vegetative state forever if you just keep it from getting a 12 hour dark period.

can you explain the process of taking a cutting to me then ? i would be interested to try this technique for my next grow
cheers
ps where in the world are you if you don't mind me asking - pm if you want - i understand

you might still be able to do it now but your window closes after you turn to 12/12. I've done it as much as a week after and still had them root though. I bascially just take dirty scissors and cut a shoot off (3-5 inches with a growing tip) at a 45 degree angle, scrape the bottom of the stem up with one side of the scissors, dip it in rooting gel and stick it in a 1 inch rockwool cube that has been soaked in ph'ed water (5.5-6.5) your supposed to be sterile and use razor blades but i've never had a problem with my scissors, just cut it clean. Then stick it under a floursescent light and you should have roots in 2 weeks. If its the winter you'll need to get a heating pad going underneath. It likes 70-85 degrees or so to root. I usually stake them with a scewer too in the rockwool cause they'll wilt for a few hours at first. then just spray them a few times a day with water and keep the rockwool damp but not wet. You can buy a cloning tray at hydro stores which will consist of a small black tray with spots for the rockwool cubes and a humidity dome but you don't really need it. In short, just clip, scrape, dip and put it in the cube under a light. You might even be able to get away without the rooting gel but not sure.
Cloning would be perfect for you cause you can clip a bunch right before you turn the lights, pick the ones you want after you sexed the plants, wait for them to root and then toss them in some small planters and they'll get 12-15 inches by the time your other stuff is done. Then you can just veg those for 3 weeks under your 400w, then just repeat. I'm near oakland, CA. medical marijuana capital of the US.

It's turned into springtime in the tent and all flowering nicely
Claire was cut down :( as it was Deffo male
I'll post some more pics tonight for you to see
