I've noticed a few fruit gnats in and around my ladies, anyone know some good products to exterminate them before they get out of control, without effecting the plant much?

Ok so I took a trip out to Menards today and while i was browsing i came upon the section that has rubbermaids and all of that junk.
I seen some clear containers that would work perfect as tray units for a hydroponic grow. they are big enough to hold maybe 8 small plants, which is perfect for me.
They also have containers like rubbermaids but a lot stonger that i seen in another post.
I think theyre called strongboxes. [the lids have diamond pattern]

Ive never grown hydro yet but as any grower knows im always wanting to learn and begin my own hydro grow.
I know the basics of the concept behind hydroponics, Nutirents, Water PH, Temperature, Time schedules, etc.
Im still just a little nervous on beginning a hydro grow because the fact that if something simple goes wrong like a water pump failing or a slight over nute. may end in a lost crop.

I think I am going to start buying some supplies i need for a hydro grow and along with some help from many amazing growers here on RIU i think i may be able to pull it off. Any help is appreciated!!!!

So I'll begin with some of the supplies I already have:

400w hps system.
two cfl shoplights
Fox Farm Big bloom nutirent
small fan
about 8-10 large pots
10 small pots
jiffy pellets for cloning
2 air pumps

Some things i know i need:

couple slabs of rockwool
couple bags of clay pellets
fox farm grow big and tiger bloom nutes.[any suggestions?]
extra fan*
water pump
tubing[need measurments any help]
two stronboxes [reseviour/clonebox]
two rubbermaid trays
CO2[any suggestions?]

I think im going to be building a flood and drain system like an ebb and flow or something along the lines.

I want the pump from the resevior to fill the trays up to the top of the drain tube which will allow the water to drain without overflowing until the pumps shut off. once the pump shuts off the water will drain out of another hole that will be drilled in the bottom of the trays. the water will go back in the res. and be used again.

I will fill the trays with the clay pellets. and place the plants in rockwool which will go in the clay.

some questions i Have are:

-What Ph should the res be
-info on feeding schedules
-amount of watering time and times per day
-res flushing
-different types of systems
-information on clones and roots
-information on CO2

The first thing id like to build is a clone box out of a strong box or rubbermaid contanier.
using pvs pipes and spray nossels

any info or pics on the construction of one of these?

ALSO I HAVE A FRUIT GNAT PROBLEM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
WHAT SHOULD I USE TO EXTERMINATE?!?!?!?!?!?

Thats it for now feel free to post on anything you feel the need to bring up or correct!
STAY HIGH!

I love how much useful information is on this site.

i just went over a gnat thread and theres a ton of ways to get rid of them from fly traps and neem oil to sand and beer [lol]

im going to get a bag of sand today in a little bit [after i smoke of course]
and place a layer on top of the soil in each plant pot.

im going to put tape up all over to kill some flyers
id like to buy the neem oil and i might if all else fails
and for the fuck of it im putting two cups of sum brewski
hope they have a good time ;]]]

Went to menards. Found some sand.
Haha the menards by me is fucking huge with two floors two elevators and a huge escalater.
it nearly took me forever to find this shit. but i did.
i also checked out some wood and found some great deals. Mini-ramp here i come!

But anyway, i added the soil to the plants and it was pretty fun i must admit seeing the little bastards go nuts!
while i was putting some duct tape around the pots i saw one land on it and try gettin off haha
i guess its a lil bad how that amuses me but these things were hurting my babies :]

after only about 30 mins after putting the sand on i didnt really see any movement around the puts.
give it a couple days and they should be gone

Tomorrow i will probably be going back[ if i get around to it] to buy the trays, resevior, and clonebox.
I may try checking around a little before buying these.

gnat problems almost gone id give it a couple days and they should be done for.

The clones i transplanted are all pretty much going good most of them have produced new foliage.
im ordering a new rooting gel by rootech in a second for the next batch and i bought a better dome.

Once it comes in the maill im going to take another 8 clones and by that time the first group should be getting ready to flower :D
