I am contemplating something, you guys can input if you feel like it. So the screen is to line up bud sites, one per square. Either way that will be the case, but I am wondering about starting each branch into the screen. I'm not sure if I should bring all the branches strait up from the stem and have them all weave through one or two squares and then off their different directions, or if I should drag the lower branches away and start them in the screen a few squares away from center.

Pros and cons I see are, with the stems coming strait up, they have less distance to reach the screen initially compared with the other way. Also if they came strait up the underneath of the screen would be 'neater' with all the branches bunched up. With the other method, it seems more natural (even though nothing about this grow is natural). Also I don't know if the stems would crowd each other out of one square with the first way.

What you guys think A or B?

Ive done a SCROG and I think theres a link in my sig, anyways the lower branches you should start weaving out a little further from the center of the screen like your saying. It will come to you as you get in there and start doing it.

Do it like b or the center of the screen wil be way to clustered.

Your goal should be to spread the plant out as much as possible. It will be hard putting the branches through 1 or 2 squares and trying to bend them into different directions. More stress on the plant and more likely to brake branches. I would spread them out as far as possible and when they continue to grow spread them out further by pulling them down thru and moving them further away.

You definetly dont wont the plant clustered around the middle.

Every one else can chime in too, but I think we have it.

Thanks guys, and all you beginning scroggers (like me) pay attention.

Nice, your scrog thread is one of the main reasons I decided to do a scrog in the first place. I still can't get over how nicely the screen spread that plant out.

You inspired me. Thanks for the thread and pics, you created another scrogger (lord help us).

Hahaha awesome man im glad to hear I inspired someone, good luck and have fun with it :)

I'm very happy with my scrog... although it is a TON of work.

Check the pics. This is day 32 (halfway though week 5).

Thanks for the advise.

How many bud sites you think I got?

im about to start a scrog soon. I thought the goal was to keep all the fan leaves under teh screen allowing only the tops/budsites to go through the screen? No?

True... thats what nowstopwhining's scrog looked like.

I over grew mine, vegged too long with too many plants so things are going crazy... The stuff along the edge, most of it is already wound around a bit before going strait up. The side action is actually great though, when you grow, you might want to try having a bog, box of green, by having screens go up each side... ok maybe the second time,

but it's great because all the light that goes off the sides of my lights hit the sides of those outside branches.

Also... some of my shoots in the middle, the tallest 2 buds in the middle of the screen, those are secondary branches, when I was weaving, they were just little budsites, but with the light so close (i guess) they have taken off and are like 5 inches tall, so even when you do get the branches under the screen you still need to get the secondary branches under too.

To get the kind of screen you are talking about I should have used 1 or two plants with the same veg time, I would have had room in the screen to spread everything out.

Does that all make sense?

I also topped everything a few times so there were so many branches that it just went crazy.

Maybe not conventional... I'll take it though.

makes sense. So i should be okay with my two clones? You know the deal. I found THEE perfect scrog screen under my kitchen sink (mesh rack that hold cleaning supplies and such)

yeah, you'll be good with that... 6 is too much to deal with.

how big are the 'holes' in the screen? It really helps to be able to, from the bottom of the screen, reach up through the screen holes with a couple fingers and pull stuff down.

Plus if stuff is too close you will have your monster nugs grow 'over' the screen and you will have to cut your buds up to get them out.

They are 1" squares. The metal is pretty thick too. Ill take a picture of it :) How high does it need to be above the DWC kit? Or does it depend on plant size?

1" might be ok, just a pain really... the buds wont grow around that, (unless you grow serious monsters, haha).

The height is up to you... it should be high enough to work under.

I guess standard scrog stuff says 8 - 12 inches is what people do. Mine are 12 inches and I wish I would have put it lower... The height is really ONLY for you to work under... so depending on the setup and what you can reach will determine how high you want it.

Suggestion, if you can lift everything up you will be very happy. Here's the two reasons.

1. The height of my screen, and pretty much the height I work at all the time, is about the worst height it could be for my body. Any higher and I could stand, any lower I could kneel. Anyhow, you would be fucking stoked if you could get it closer to chest high (you might not have that kind of vert height, but it would be nice).

2. Running DWC, I was having nightmares the other night of my tank busting... if that rubbermaid gave out I don't know what the hell I would do, there is no way to lift anything, it's strapped down. Even if I could slide the old tank out, I couldn't get a new one in with all the huge root balls. If my stuff was lifted 1 foot up, I could potentailly drop the tank out of the way. It's like trying to change a transmission without having a jack.

Oh, and the higher the screen the more shit you have to rip off the bottom, and it's so hard to rip off nice growth. So the lower the better I think, but leave enough to work and not break branches while you are reaching around under there. 9 - 10 inches is best I think.

man my space is so small. My cab is only 3' high. The tote is 7 inches and the reflector is 6 inches. So my plants will stay small. I think ill mount the screen about 7 inches above the tote. Im not sure how big the clones are (havent seen them yet) but thats why i wanted to go to 12/12 so fast, minimal stretch. Now im not even sure if I need a scrog lol

the screen will keep them shorter if you do it right... other than that I think it is like work = weight/ space. If you aren't going for max weight, you might just want to save yourself the work.

I'm doing it becuase I like to go all out and I figured it would maximize my 2'x3' closet. It has, and it has also kicked my ass, haha.

i see. Well yeah id like to get the most out of these clones. Since last few grows havent been too rewarding at all. I just gotta research this and look at more pics.

When do you cut all of the lower leaves off?

I took mine off after a week of 12/12, but that was kinda random. It's hard to say becuase people all say "don't take anything off" but with the screen stuff is going to get totally shaded so it has to come off sooner or later.

I have never checked with the experts (I think they would all say never pick anything), but I wonder if it is beneficial to pick stuff off early so as to focus growing energy to the good stuff you are actually going to keep. I personally think it is a balancing act of pulling stuff that is worthless vs. pulling more than half the plant off.

You definitely want to pull stuff that is starting to wilt and die from shade, anything earlier is up to taste.

my buddy is just starting his second scrog grow, you might want to watch him a bit, he just posted talking about this:
