i have a couple scrog questions. Iv done some searching and getting mixed reviews and the posts are like. 8-10 years old.

So a little back ground info this is my 3rd or 4th scrog and every time it's a learning experience my previous grows I'd get a male or some plants didn't perform good so this time I'm only scroging 2 plants
I started them from seed. Moby dick feminized. They went into my grow room once they sprouted so they been in veg for 6-7 weeks now. My screen is starting to fill in pretty good.
1st question should I let the screen fill in more befor flipping to 12/12 or can I flip and keep tucking untill it's filled?

2nd question: should I start trimming under the screen when there in veg or what till there on 12/12 and I'm done tucking?
As you can see in the pic it's like a jungle under there and I don't want to cut anything good so should I wait untill they start grown in up through the screen? (Sorry it's kinda a shitty picture)

I would like to use anything that's not gonna make the screen for clones and a mother plant

I hope this post isn't to confusing. If there's anything else I could/shouldn't be doing that you notice please let me know
Thanks in advance

1st , I would clean up the underneath, remove sucker branches for your clones , then lollipop the branches , and keep filling the net. I Try for a head every square But it’s never 100% but that’s the goal, even heads in the square. But depending on the branch,& where it is coming off of the main stock or if it’s a branch of a branch will determine its growth rate , this is why having a plan n training very early makes a huge difference when it comes time to cut. would also add another net above the 1st one, make it adjustable for future grows (rase or lower it depending on how stretchy the strain is)
This will support the buds once they fatten up,

I would also cut back your feeding
Your leaves look like they have to much N
And I can see some tips curling down on the lower leaves .

I use 60-100 pound monofilament fishing line for a screen, doesn’t block light .

Over all tho, looks good .

Thanks for the tips, so should I start trimming the underneath now in veg or wait till I flip them to flower?
Or should I just flip them to flower now and start trimming and filling the screen?

I’d keep vegging , you have a couple big holes still.
I would start trimming n lollipopping now,
I’m always ripping off the bottom, I don’t want the plant putting energy into an area with out much light, this also sends the energy to the tops ,
What your trying to do is manipulate the growth , for an even top canopy

Wanted a scrog on last week but ordered wrong fittings....what week do they stop stretching and when is it too late to add a scrog?20180408_000837.jpg

The stretch is very strain dependent, also conditions , to hot , to cold, & light intensity.
You can build a scrog out of anything,
Wood, pipe, pvc, bamboo,
Use string , wire , heavy fishing line
Endless.

Yep like big horn said you cant grow weed where there isnt any;)

Fill that fucker UP then cut unneeded tops out and flip

Fill it then keep level

I like to defoliate but thats another thread :)

I clear the underside in veg a couple times, then also in flower at about three weeks is about average I think.
I think I had to do it again at like 6 weeks also last time

It can get awful jammed up if you dont keep up on it.

You can tell whats not going to reach the net, no reason to keep it imo.

It just wilts away under there and causes a mess

Do do a proper ScroG you need to top/FIM your plants to get 4 - 8 main branches. Set the screen about a foot or more above the base and as the tops grow up thru the screen bend them over and use short pieces of twist tie to loosely lash them to the screen. as they grow you keep tying the grow tip to the screen so it grows horizontally. PVC or wood frames are not needed. I use stiff sheep fencing with squares up to 5x6". If I want to grow a tip across a gap I tie in a piece of wire across the gap and lash the growing tip to that. I buy the twist tie on a roll with a built in snipper to cut off pieces the length I want.

The remnants of a one plant DWC Scrog that yielded 8 oz of bud and almost the same in sugar leaf and popcorn.

Vegging and tying down tips should continue until the screen is almost full. When a tip grows to the edge you just let it go for a few days until it's long enough to turn around and tie back into the screen. As those branches grow along, their side branches will grow out and need to be lashed down as well. There will be lots of those and tho smaller will make up half or more of your yield. The amount of the biggest colas will depend on how many main branches started the ScroG. The more branches the smaller the colas at the end but overall yield is higher.

A light screen can always be suspended from the ceiling too and keep the weight from pushing tiny netpots through the lids. I like the 3.5" inch for plants to grow smaller, the 5" for bigger ones and the netpot in the pic above is a 2L tobacco can custom fit into the lid. Was a mother plant in a pot that size of ProMix so I set her up in DWC to flower out. With a bigger screen I could have got a pound off her.

Haha proper scrog wouldnt have larf ;)(not being mean) thats the WHOLE point of scrogs is to not grow larf lol by keeping the canopy level to evenly distribute the growth
Mainlined scrogs work even better as its coming from one node

I used to mess around with training for weeks weaving but now i just grow em bushy till they fill an area and plop my net on top and flip :)

Week 7 still several to go this has been defoliated about 3 times since flip20180413_081516.jpg

There will be some trim but very little "larf"

Cause you started off with "proper" ;)
Just tickled me a bit is all

Just letting the op know that keeping it flat and so you can see the floor is the biggest things :)

I said i wasnt being mean
Nice buds @OldMedUser

I see a lot of growers calling anything with a screen a ScroG when it's really just screen supported colas.

To "properly" ScroG you need to train what would be a 10 ft plant onto a flat surface to maximize output. As much as it's fun to quadruple the yield from one plant in a ScroG compared to growing the same in a big pot it's a lot of fussing around. DWC ScroG kicks ass tho. Plants veg so fast in DWC that the screen fills up a lot faster. Flowering time is the same no matter how you grow it.

Sitting in the grow room bending and lashing down grow tips to the screen is very relaxing. You really get into "groking" your plants sometimes or at least I used to. Recently I'm feeling it again.

The strain is important too. You want something with legs on it like a sativa dominant. A stocky indica just ain't built for ScroG. Much better in a SoG. A good SoG needs training too. No topping and snip off any side branches once there are two nodes under the snipped end. Get you some donkey dicks with the right strains.

So many ways to skin those cats. :)

OP - In a properly done scrog, one plant would easily occupy that entire screen you have and yield about a pound or more.

Which strain would you recommend for the techniques you spoke of in this post...:?:
