Scotch's lil Shindig- PG180's- Spec 100's, why not?

I don't know too much about LED's. I'm currently using CFL's for my momma's and baby's and HPS for flower. I did happen to come accross a small biz the other day that supplies bulbs, nothing to do with growing. This older dude, in his late 60's who seems well versed in all types of electrical and diff types of lighting. He had various LED displays in his front show room as well I noticed him building something. The nosey guy I am, I inquired and he told me he could build me anything I wanted with LED's.....

Next time I'm in his area, I will be sure to inquire some more and do some research and pass on anything new I can learn from him....

Hell yea Guod, the whites are the suggested, or the diode being used to give those numbers? You went above and beyond with that; Thank you.

I was lining up the charts I had received from A51.. and I am too stoked, pretty sure those are going to rock 12/12, now I am looking to DIY a straight "Veggie" panel.

...Yes, I will buy decal letters just to brand it that if I accomplish such a feat.. better suggestions? lol Any suggestions for cheap heatsinks, well...quality, but cheap? Drivers are more panel specific... so ill have to search that later once other detail are sorted.. but some good sinks and a source for boards and accessory necessities- is beyond me. Guess so is the emitters... housingss... lens... everything is.. lol. SHWOO.. let's figure this thing out,

Back to the board!

Thank you much DDC, we're all constantly learning and I love the education- glad to have you for the ride

I am mixing up a new batch of nutes for the SLH, they're eating like a hoss, shooting for 550 after PH Up is thrown in (320 being Gro solution)

Pulled some serious LST off on the Tangerine Dream, she's probably hating every minute of it, but I finally have her on the right track, drinking about 35ppm in the past 12 hours- with a rising ph. The continuous LST should hold me tight till the new lights, split the two apical stems up top out to the side, allowing the "FIM'd" branch to catch back up, two lower branches are now trying to catch up, giving me 4-5 solid "tops" all clustered in the center.

Pics soon, due date for the tyke is Friday, so things are a bit busy.

Due date=March 1st~Area 51 Release-coincidence? I think not. :hump:

these are more or less standard white Leds.

let me show up what happend if we use white leds in a spectrum
as you know white leds are blue leds with a phosphor coating
the Energie of the blue led is shifted by the phosphor towards the red.
the more we go to the red range(cw --> ww) the blue will become lesser.

in this diagram you see the underlaying blue and the 3 whites(cw;nw,ww)
from blue to White.jpg
energie is the aera under the curves.
this tranfer has also losses and the get greater the more we shift.
"the lumen output of a cw-Led is always higher than that of a ww-Led"
Stokes shifting
http://www.digikey.com/us/en/techzone/lighting/resources/articles/Whiter-Brighter-LEDs.html

the same diagram without the blue led
Phosphor White.jpg
looks also different to what you see on some led-company sites(Cree), because they normalized the highest point for each led to 100%

now you may realize that we have to add up the blue part of the white led to the blue part of the spectrum
and do the same for the red part.
adding up numbers of leds or watts is misleading here.

play with buildmyled to see it for yourself

Thanks for these graphs Guod. Legend! :)

I still dont see the point of putting NW's in an array. Of course...That is when you have WW and CW. Would you agree?

Things have been busy, still no baby though. Hopefully sooner than later. A lot has happened since the last update.

Mainly that the Tangerine Dream is drinking "right," lowering ppm and rising ph, but showing signs of a new def. Maybe K. Gonna ride it out and see what happens. I had changed the res on this one today and was blown away at how thick the root mass was, it's about the same size I have always seen; but theyre DENSE now, just a giant fucking wad of white- about the same size as the upper portion of the plant.

The Super Lemon Haze has been kicking right along very well up until the recent res change, 2 days ago I had started getting rust rolored blotches along the leaves- marginal chlorosis- Magnesium/Calcium. Sweet...

Well, I changed my res, upping the amount I have usually used, from 150ppm (7ml/12liters) to 210ppm (9ml/12liters~3ml/gal). And it seems to have gotten worse- leaves twisting, having a very dry, crispy feel- and the RH is now up to 51%- which steers me towards an environmental condition causing this (low RH, no humidifier, usually 20% naturally)

But, theyve been doing alright with the low RH up till now so I am thinking it's a Cal/Mag issue or some sort.. I have always had HUGE issues determining if I have an EXCESS causing a toxicity, or not enough and a deficiency.

Where yah @ dawg? lol School me brother..

The clones are rocking, actually should have transplanted two of the four into netpots by now, but shit has been hectic lately and I guess ill learn the hard way if it backfires.. running on 150ppm of Cal/Mag right now, may up the dose to 300 with Grow solution soon.
In other news.. I did make the cut for the 5" ducting to exhaust my AC unit, rigged it all up after a few tweaks to the platform and such... and I am ready!! We get every extreme of seasons' in my part of town. Pretty stoked, and shocked at how loud it was.

Need to check and see if Menards has gotten GreenGlue in store yet, double layer the drywall and see if that doesnt help.

Thank you for the links and charts Guod, you have really kickstarted everything for me. I am currently going back through all of my "bookmarks" of DIY information and reeducating myself- I should have some extra change left from flipping my old hoods, ballasts, etc on eBay to buy everything I need for a couple panels and not pull from my pocket.

'Pheda that's pretty legit! lol I was moreso making fun of the stupid name I had said, but to really be able to brand your own light like that, would be quite legit.... now I need to seriously consider some good names....

I will post pics of everything shortly and would appreciate any input you may have towards the SLH, I know this party is full of confetti colours... but I really dont want to fuck up these SLH..

SLH- 4 weeks old
TD- 8 weeks old
Clones- 2 1/2 weeks old

:/ hate to say it... but yea... I am from the "Midnight release Market" and used to launch dates being solidified, have some kid's that would REALLY love the light.

I have been shooting the shit with a local grower I had met a few years back (bought my first shitty LED off him, but we're still on good terms), he has recommended mixing RO and Tap water and scrap the Botanicare's Cal/Mag+

He thinks it is binding up and locking itself out, and I think along with other minerals (the N, P, K def's, Mg,.....Ca......ABCD.....)

Any words of wisdom to counter this theory?

He seems to see it as a more "neutral" buffer than Cal/Mag- which I had originally thought it was the Cal/Mag throwing my PH down constantly... so maybe this would be the fix to all this shit? Sounds easier... I dont like the idea of not knowing what is in the first 150ppm of my water... but if it'll get this on the right track...

Brother Scotch Why Are You Running Only 3ml Of Cal/Mag Per Gallon Of Water???Hell Thats Less Than The Recommended Dose For Soil 5ml Per Gallon. On The Back Of The Botnaicare Jug It States 10ml Per Gallon For Accelerated Formula IE:Hydro. Now I Have Played Around With Cal/Mag Using 5ml In My Initial Mix With 5ml In My Add Back And I Still Had Problems.Im Now Running 10ml In My Mix And None In My Add Back And This Is Working.Beins You Didnt Mention It Im Assumeing That Your Not Spraying You Leaves With Organic Lime This Is A Must.I Spray My Leaves Once A Week For 2 Weeks This Will Get Rid Of Your Mag Problem.Below Is What I Use Im sure Menards Will Have It.

When I had added 5-7.5ml to my water instead of 3 the Bot. Cal/Mag put my ppm's at 450 :/ I know what you are saying makes sense... but something just doesnt add up, it shouldnt be that high should it? You run 750ppm total in full veg right?

So should I be giving them only 350ppm of DynaGro and ~400 of Cal/Mag?? It doesnt seem like they would need that much of just Calcium and Magnesium compared to the macro's... it has 2% N, but still..

On the last couple of TD's I had thrown my ppm's up into the high thousands when trying to balance these out... a land beyond me, trying to give em a balance ended up scorching them, of course.

The biggest issue is I dont know if I am giving them too much, or not enough. A Calcium toxicity leaches onto other minerals and locking shit out.. P, K, Mg... Every time I go either way.. it gets worse. So my thought process is to just cut out the Cal/Mag altogether.. and see what happens, if this bitch yellows up REAL FAST like I am thinking she will... Ill know she's not holding a shit ton of nutes in 'er to use up first and then I can start a "emergency" res change with a higher dosage of Cal/Mag

What scale/conversion factor do you measure your TDS on Dawg? Maybe I was on the right track but the numbers jogged me...

Well Have Yall Tried To Email Him?? His Website Says March Of 2013 And In His Reply I Was Told He Has A Tracking Number And Its Moving
you have a light on the way Dawg??

Alright, I got to thinking.. and ended up changing both totes..

both of these methods make sense to me.. so I am going to run both

Diluted RO water
-I chose Super Lemon Haze to take this option- I think being a smaller vegging plant that it would have better chances with less nutes, whereas the Tangerine Dream is twice the age
-Dilluted to 4:1 (liters)- 10 liters RO, 2.5 liters Tap (350ppm)- giving me a base of 102ppm
-Added straight DynaGro- 8ml-370ppm
-My PH had risen instead of dropping off as it usually had, making me use 2ml of Ph Down to give me 6.1- havnt used Down in a minute
-Total's out: 490ppm, 6.1, 67.4*

With 5ml Cal/Mag
-Went with Tangerine Dream for this one- It has a massive root system that I think could easily handle the adjustment in Cal/Mag and should be the most noticeable for change
-Using ~12 liters straight RO water base of 11ppm,
-15ml's Cal/Mag added- gave me 308ppm, @ 19.8ppm/ml
-Then 8ml DynaGro took me to 650ppm total

BIG NOTE: I noticed that when I had added the Dyna with the Cal/Mag'd water- thats when the PH had started to plummet- dropping to 4.1, reasons this alarms me;

1. This had not happened with the batch of Tap/RO/Dyna, PH had risen once I added the Grow solution.
2. Cal/Mag did not lower the PH of the water it was added to, it was monitored as things were mixed.

Which tells me that it is the DynaGro and Cal/Mag in combination that is lowering my PH!!!

This is a reaction of the chemicals, isnt it?? Did I just witness the issue??

That means the Calcium is/could be binding to the other chemical minerals, causing the lockout?

I have read the bag of Dyna's bottle and it has 2% Ca and .5% Mg, could DynaGro, being a one part grow solution, thrive on it's own?

Homebrewer, Unoho, and others have always suggested the Silica and Mag-Pro additives to complete the regime... but are they NECESSARY? Or could there be an excess easily causing all of my trials and tribulations from using such a concentrated version of Ca & Mg?

We're gonna find out!! lol

Very unprofessional. Promoting for months new lights and new facility will be up March 1st and nothing . If this company was traded publicly. Its stock would of dropped dramatically.

You all need to be patient. There's are a lot of unforeseen things going on that are delaying things, me getting very sick with the flu was one of them.

We never guaranteed they'd be ready on 1st of March, that was just a target date. The website says March, and it is still March, with 29 more days remaining.

Hyroot, if you have any complaints or concerns, feel free to call or email anytime. We're around usually until 2am, eastern time.
