sawdust

Why is sawdust called sawdust? The dust doesn't come from the saw. It is a byproduct of the wood being cut... Why not call it wood dust? Because that's what it is.

You don't toss branches into a wood chipper, and call them chipper chunks. That's retarded. Why would you ever call a wood chip a chipper chunk?:?:

Every time I've encountered sawdust, there's been a saw near by. It's so bad that now whenever I see a saw, I start looking for dust.

lol. i wanted nothing more than to be able to help the op sleep tonight but the web is a wasteland. best i could come up with is that the word originated around the 1520s in saw mills. any dust at the mills was likely called saw dust and just so happens they were sawing wood. most sources say the origin is unknown.
