Running LED Light & HPS Light together

Just wondering if anyone else is experiencing the same problem or has any advice:

I am running a 250watt HPS and decided to run a 50watt LED as additional lighting.

I am now on my 3rd LED light cause the first 2 broke within their first day of use.

I use to put the LED Lights on the same circuit as the HPS Light because then it would be on the same timer. I am thinking that that might be the problem.... but I'm not willing to test that theory at the moment as I don't want the new LED light to fail too if that's not the problem.

I have ruled out temps as it never goes above 26C and below 18C. It's not the socket as other appliances works fine on it.

As I'm not clued up in electrics, can anyone help please before I lose another light?

Thanks

what brand of LED light? have heard some are crap thrown together in china.
Good thought about being on the same circiut, the inrush surge from the HPS starting might have something to do w/ it. try the next on a different breaker or set a timer to start the LED after the hps has been running for a few minutes.

Not sure on the brand, bought it online from a distributor in the UK. Just says 50Watt UFO. I spoke to the distributor and they said that it is really odd because they have never had any of them fail and they sell hundreds.

They look pretty sturdy and quite bright. It cost like £70. I don't think that the inrush surge had anything to do with it because the first two lights were fine after starting for a few hours. All i can think is that the ballast doesn't draw a stable current and causes some sort of spike from time to time. The hps light flickers some times and becomes brighter and then weaker.

Don't know. it's a shot in the dark. I'll try a different circuit but that means installing more cable. :wall:

Thanks for the help.

i would put my money on faulty power supplies. The cheap led units are made with cheap power supply units. Think cheap laptop charger, some work some crap out day one. 70 pounds is about average for a ufo from a store (chinese crap at a markup twice).

If they don't warranty the unit for you, you could probably take apart the case and find a new power supply that will match the amperes.
