Roots Growing out top of cubes??

Mr I Can Do That For Half
Had a few rebel clones this last clone session. I had 4 that actually have the roots gowing up from the cube out the top toward the light? They are indeed roots and I have never had up roots like this. Was curious if anyone else ever had this happen.Plants are strong and roots also gre through bottom towards the moisture but the up ones were new.I know the moisture was low to have the roots search so only thing I can think is maybe the early misting made the top of cubes moist enough to get a few rebel roots???

I dont think I'll have a root bound situation since these are only 4 days from cuttings but the 2 inch cube is full and ready to go into the aero system now.Im going to have to watch these rebels though make sure they dont cause trouble

yes, this happens to me often, it's fine, it's good, it means your plant is rooting very well indeed, bury the cube a bit deeper to let those roots flourish more.

I figured it's be ok was just weird probaly the first to happen in over 350 clones lol and got couple this time.I will banish those rots under the hydroten pebbles of life

Yeah didnt think it woul;d be a problem.Just first time in over 350 clones ever happened and got a couple lol I will banish those roots under the hydroton pebbles of life..

nah, it isn't about roots seeking the light, more about space i guess. i witnessed something similar with some clones i grew in little rockwool cube on a tray, so the roots got the option of the little drainage hole in the bottom of the tray or the big opening on the top of the tray were the cubes are set into it. after the drain hole was plugged with fresh roots and me lazy still not doing anything about it they started to show at the top of the cubes, i guess this about what happened in our case too;)

I saw that before.. i think widow maker showed me.. ???

it happened with a particular rooting hormone... and the way it was applied..

can you give us more details about your cloning technique....

cheers

and pictures!!!

Well there is no drainage hole as I use rockwool 2 inch cubes and they sit in a flat withres lines for excess water run off. This is a first time I had any clone do it but heres the basics of my usual cloning.I take smaller clones then some but not that small.I tend to take my clones with a 2 inch size.I cut maybe a dozen putting them in room temp ph neutral water while gathering them.My rockwool cubes get a 15 minute soak in light nutrient watre then get a fresh water rise and light squeeze ridding excess water.I use my exacto knife to cut a fresh 45 about 1/4 long on the stem.I then like to slit the 45 up the stalk about 1/8 inch to get 2 fresh starts for roots.I next use clonex gell on the cut.I dunk about 1/4 1/2 inch in swirl it arond coating it good making sure no bubble in the gel.Next the clone will go into the 1 1/2" or 2" rockwool cube(depends what s on sale) .I use starter cubes which have the hole in the top and each block is plastic wrapped to help stop light.I like to poke a wire in the hole to make it about 3/4 of the way through the block.I then put the clone in the hole. All the way down but just firm not to smask the cut I made.I try to pinch the top of the rockwool around stalk lightly to seal it.Thats the basic. Then the clones go in a tray flat.No cups just in the actual tray.I then like to barely cover the bottom with at first a light coating of plain water first day.Basically theres a little water in the tray for roots to search down to.I then mist 2-3 times a day while the tray sits onheating pad lifted by few pencils under it for heat circulation. There is a dome over the plants at all times except for twice a day after day 2 I open it for 15 minutes 2 times aday for fresh air and if need a remist to exchange air. I add a little fish emuslsion water to the tray on day 3 to give a light feed as the roots usually pop on day 3-5 for me.On day 4-5 lid is always off and plants are doing good about ready to go.I keep 2 sets of shop light floros on 24 hours about 1/2 inch from top of clones. So total 4 floro tubes over about 45 clones.thats the basics of it.Day 6-8 they can go to veg which will be aero this round or when dirt right into 5 gallon buckets.

I'll see about a picture of these clones they are day 5 but no pics of the actual cutting process sorry.I will put them in my gallery but until rollitup gets the friggin gallery lonk for user back in finding it will be good luck. You ay have to search photos under F for FilthyFletch.
