Roots are Tapping into the Reservoir

Just checked the roots on my first grow, and it looks like i have put the plants too near the edge of the tray and pump. The result is that the roots have grown over the edge of the tray and descended into the water reservoir. Will this choke my plants, and if so, is it safe to cut them or will this stress and kill my plant?

just let them grow, or move the roots somehow to where you want them to be. I don't see why them being in the rez would hurt anything...

Thanks, that takes a load off. I am a total noobie and didn't want to totally screw up.
