root smell in water res bad or good?

does root smell in the water mean root rot or does it always smell when the roots get big during flowering in a recirculating hydroponic system?

As long as it doesn't smell...off. There can be an odor but as long as it doesn't smell like a swamp or like something is rotten. Mine just smell like the nutes.

You will know the smell of root rot when you smell it. Roots do give off a faint odor. But it is not overpowering. Also pay attention to the color of your roots. They should be white with only a slight discoloration depending on nutes you use. I tried to post a pic of my roots but for someone they will not load tonight. Good luck and happy growing.

Keep the water chilled or if you can't, use hydroguard or something like it. Rootrot smells bad, sewerish.
