Root Rot Bonanza

Hello everyone..

So I'm running a BCNL Bloombox with 7 Barney's Pineapple chunk. I started week 3 flowering on Saturday. I had the very beginnings of some root rot a couple weeks back. I removed all the plants from my flowering res, gave them a fresh water and h202 bath, removed my flowering res, bleached it out, bleached the lines, rinsed, and refilled. Saw a lot of improvement and all my roots went back to clean white.

Now on Friday I noticed some root rot starting up again. So on Saturday I figured I would give them another h202 bath, remove my larger res, bleach it, etc. and returned everyone to the res. I've been patching light leaks in the top of the res, and its as dark as its gonna get. I've been keeping the res temp in the mid 60s with frozen water bottles. I have 4 airstones running all the time, and am using 5-6 ml/gal hyox. Any time I go in my res I scrub up to my elbows; I also wash the water bottles when they are ready to be put in the res. Does anyone have any suggestions on getting rid of this pythium once and for all? It's starting to become very aggravating. My root systems are getting large enough where another h202 bath and transfer will be impossible.

I would like to make this a helpful discussion for others, as root rot posts in the forum are pretty slim pickins for solutions.

i only had root rot once, and it was in DWC. my guess is that while you have 4 airstones in there and they still can't keep up, then you have too small of air pump. i used absolutely no treatments for my root rot. i lowered the level in the res, and upgraded my air pump and voila! a week later all was good. my guess is that you have a 4-outlet air pump from petco or a similar one from ecoplus. i would recommend a dual-diaphragm pump at the minimum, or if you have a large reservoir do like me and get the 12 outlet commercial air pump. either way, this is an oxygenation issue. you can upgrade the pump or start adding h2o2 daily, and i'm pretty sure the pump is both easier and more cost-effective.

Thanks man, that's a good thought. Unfortunately my air pump is decent, and is definitely big enough to oxygenate a 6 gallon res. I just picked up some Hygrozyme, so we shall see how that works out. I dunno how I'm seeing this much trouble but I really don't think its a D.O. issue... Like I said the air pump is fine, plus I'm adding h202 and keeping the temps mid 60s...

Here's hoping the hygrozyme will work out well.. I hear really good things. I wish this was something more people were interested in. My advanced "root rot" searches turn up a billion posts with 1 reply.
