Root Question!

1st grow here and unfortunately I have some anxiety issues, such as thinking every little dot, dark spot, whatever, is a problem. I was initially going to post in the plant problem section, but after thinking about it I decided it was more of a question and less of a problem

So I've got some pretty healthly plants thus far. They stand roughly 4-6inches tall with well developed roots. System layout is as follows:

DWC Drip System
2 90W LED UFO's
Ultrasonic Fogger
No nutes, just epsom salt & H202

So the problem here is that I have noticed some yellowing (not brown) to the roots, specifically on the larger more dense roots. I do use H202 in the res to prevent root rot. I am wondering if this yellowing of the roots is something to be concerned about or is this normal. The younger plants, 2 sets of adult leaves, have much lighter roots.

Any help/suggestions/comments would be appreciated.:leaf:

Im gonna have to say its on the low side.

I add a roughly a gallon of water (properly PH'd) a day out of a brita jug, Im not using the filter just was the largest thing I could find to move some water around. The fogger sucks up water like crazy, thats why I add so much. 66qt resevoir, 16.5 gal. Anyway, I add roughly a cap of H202 per gallon, which is probably close to about 3/4 teaspoon for a total of 16.5 caps or 4 tablespoons.

Im thinking it might not be such a bad idea to go pick up some Phytophthora block, whatever the hell you wanna call it. I know GH makes a root shield product.

PH is kept between 5-6
PPM not to exceed 300 (I have some very young plants in the same system.)

Well if its anything above 3% h2o2 then I think your adding 2 much and you might be scorching the roots. And sometimes nutes can stain the roots (im not saying thats the case). But I would gradually raise the ppm over the next few weeks. Like by increments of 30-50. But try not to exceed 600 ppm for veg. But thats just my 2 cents. []Deace!

Ya its the cheap stuff, 3% h202. So I should be ok. I was adding it under the impression that H202 has a relatively short life span in terms of its actual usefulness. Im also wondering how the light affects it, not that the res is open to light but rather how the peroxide reacts after being exposed to light when it is dripped. Afterall, they dont manufacture the stuff in light proof bottles to save money.

Regardless, you think im alright then? Im not gonna fret over the peroxide when there are no signs of nute burn on the plants. Im just concerned with the yellowing of the root system on two plants.

Yea I would suggest adding nutes soon thou. And as far as light penetrating your res.... that could be the "root" cause of your root problem (no pun intended on that one). A whole host of problems can arise when light is being exposed to your roots. Better get something to cover your lid up or maybe paint it black. That would be the best thing to do at the moment. Along with adding nutes. They will need nutes very soon. []Deace!

Check it out!

I dunno about the nutes. In my opinion, the other plants are just not old enough to use nutes at this point. If you look at the pic you can see the young plants surrounding the large one. The small plants would get burned. I would rather starve the big ones than burn the young one.

The res is covered. You can see in the pics that the lid is white. Im planning on spray painting it black after this grow.

The big one has slightly yellow roots but appears healthy. The smaller ones have a vibrant white color roots.:leaf:

Ah yes! Pictures now, they make a whole world of difference. And yes you are correct no nutes for now they would definitely burn them. My best suggestion would be to keep up your regular regimen and see what happens within the next week or two. I'll keep an eye on this thread so I can help you out if I can. []Deace!
