hey everyone, i have had my plants under a 24/0 light just for there first few weeks then today i was going to start the 18/6 but i went to check the temp, and after 2 hours the temp droped about 15-20 F ???? how can i keep the temp up in the room when the lights go off?? :?

also my setup is in a closet that is inside my garage, so its not big enough for a heater any ideas or techniques you use?? thanks

you could get a heat lamp and place it in a section separated from the plants so the light wont interfere with your dark period. my setup had a canopy inside my closet, and a heat lamp on a seperate timer was set to come on as the grow lights went off. they were separated by a foil canopy enclosure

well if you can fit a fan in there you can fit a 20 buck heater fan from wal mart in there. They are only like 8inchs by 6 inches by4 deep like a book ads air flow and heat

What temperature did it drop to?

yeah, i'd like to know this too..

I dislike the thought of a heater.. heaters use WATTS ($$) and don't produce LUMENS.. YUCK! LOL

Please give us HIGH and LOW temps for a 24 hour period..

are you in snow country?

cheers

i live on the west coast (oregon) it keeps about 70-85 F in the closet but when i turned off my lights it droped to about 60-65 F

forgot to add i put some weather strip stuff along the inside of the doors to keep in some of that heat ( i hope) but is there anything else that could help me out?? thanks for all the help

o and im not sure if your talking about the highs and lows of my grow space or if your talking about where i live so i thought i would add that the highs and lows as if this time of year are probably about 37-60 F

YO

The biggest concern is not the LOW... but the temp difference.. if your grow room is changing in temperature by 20-30 degrees.. you could get condensation which can lead to MILDEW/MOLD/GUNK....

60-65 is not BAD... the plants should be fine... can you prevent the "lights on" temp from going over 78 degrees?

cheers

If the house is attached to the garage you might think to run duct work and a small fan to suck warm house air through the grow room but you would need good filter during flower stage. That small heater is prob the best idea with good insulation it won't many WATTS

no the garage isnt attached to the house, what is the lowest temp it is ok to get while the lights are off?? right now the lights have been off for about 2.5 hours and the temp in there is about 65 F is this ok?? thanks

Hi SMKPT

Ideally you would keep your grow room at 70 degrees (lights off) and 78 (lights on)..

And there have been many successful grows in the high 80's and low 90's... this requires great ventilation (air movement)...

It is not the cold that concerns me.. Unless you were dropping to 30-50 degrees... it is the discrepancy between LIGHT on and LIGHT off temps that may cause problems.. Such as condensation..

More than a 20 degree temp change is risky.... especially in crowded plant conditions

Just make sure you have a fan running at all times.. even at night... this will help reduce moisture build up..
