Ron DeSantis isn't Donald Trump -- he's Donald Trump Jr.

According to former Rep. Dave Jolly (R-FL) Donald Trump is in danger of being supplanted as the leading contender for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination due to a surging Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL).

Appearing on MSNBC's "The Katie Phang Show," the former lawmaker who once faced DeSantis on the ballot referred to appearances by both Republicans at Saturday night rallies and noted the rousing reception that the Florida governor received.

"David, as a former Republican congressman from your home state of Florida, is it premature to think that Ron DeSantis is gaining any ground on Trump?" host Phang prompted before adding, "That, maybe, the genuine damning evidence coming out of the Jan 6 committee is actually playing a role here? "

"Not at all, Katie," the former lawmaker replied. "I think we're watching Ron DeSantis pass Donald Trump in real-time for the GOP nomination and I would say not because Donald Trump has done anything wrong in the eyes of Republican voters and not because of the Jan 6th committee, but just because Ron DeSantis has done everything right and continues to do that from a strategic standpoint."

"Listen, when I say that people say, 'Oh, Jolly is in bed with DeSantis,' I am not. I disagree with his politics. I ran against DeSantis for the U.S. Senate in 2016 -- the only candidate some say that has ever led DeSantis and I'm the former member and he might be the next president of the United States. But I say about this is that he stole all of the assets of MAGA nation and Trump and he inherited none of the liabilities, and he has practiced those assets in Florida with near perfection in the eyes of Republican voters."

Even the NY Post pushed Donald's head under this week.

This is Murdoch using his other mouthpieces to soften the blow so that Foxnews' ultra dumb viewers have a chance to adjust to what is sure to come.

If he runs, the new Republicans might have to kill him.
that's what i'm hoping for...but i hope he hangs on long enough to fuck them in 24.
things are actually looking good for the democrats right now in 22. if they can maintain the outrage from RvW, the fear of what the loaded supreme court will do next, keep hammering home the 1/6 commission findings...they have a good chance to not only maintain their slim majority, they have a good chance to expand it.

don is...he knows he's a crooked fuck, he just thinks we're all too stupid to know it too...desantis, as much as i hate him, thinks he's doing the right thing...he's not, obviously, but at least he isn't a blatantly criminal fuck, just a fascist thug
I kind of think it is a push. Don is older, so has done a lot more shit, and was POTUS so spread it on a much larger platform, but DeSantis has a lot of years left to catch up.

I would like to not find out how much worse of a douche DeSantis could turn out to be.

You can count on Donald to make the decision that's best for him. He knows he needs help on the criminal prosecution front and just announcing his bid will loosen the noose. That alone is enough for him to choose to do it.

I would feel better in 24 if there were somebody to actually be a good front runner. On age alone, Biden should not run IMHO.

i'm still not sure who i would back right now...but i hope Biden isn't the best they can do again. i like him, and think he's doing a good job, but will he last through another presidency? will the younger voters we need get on board if he's the candidate? i think not.
maybe Newsom if he decides to run...maybe not :-? maybe Newsom / Klobuchar? or Newsom / Warren? or the other way around...but i think Newsom would have a much better chance than Warren...Klobuchar...i'm not sure.

Does it matter if he can last through another 4 years?

Not to be crass, but if he kicks the bucket in his presidency, we would get to have Harris to bat clean up for the rest of the term which is fine by me. We need to get past the need for a cult leader and Biden has proven to be competent and has been able to get a lot of shit done, even if he is not pounding his chest about it (which is why I am guessing he is able to get so much done with so little support).

I agree, i don't have a problem with the man or the job he is doing, but some people do consider longevity if a much older candidate is running, which wouldn't make that much difference against trump, but would be a huge difference against desantis.
I don't think he has the support of many younger voters, either.

so whether or not it matters to us, it matters to them, and they're a pretty big block of votes that feel like they aren't getting fair representation

Al Franken/Jon Stewart, I'm rooting for someone with a background in comedy. I want someone that can verbally spar with whoever. I'm not so much worried about debate, we had two elections where a shocking number backed the dumbest fuck to ever hold the office and knew it going in based on debates, I want someone that can make fun of the other person real time. Just embarass the hell out of them. Go to their house and talk shit in their driveway. Crash their press conferences.

Neither of those picks would alienate the conservatives biden won over, they aren't far left in their views. I think they could speak to and connect with voters in a way many can't.

If the Republicans run with DeSantis and make it about age, it would be about young white chauvinistic fascism vs Democratic values being led by a elderly white man who has shown they can still get the job done.

I don't see that going better for the Republicans than it did in 2020 regardless of Biden's age.

I remember way back in 2010 with all the Tea Party trolling that everyone was saying how bad Obama was and how there needed to be a new candidate, even Bernie Sanders was out there thinking about running against him.

I also saw something about how only 25% of people even know that Biden passed the infrastructure bill. When the question comes up on if the next president is going to be a old man who has indeed been quietly passing and signing executive orders and appointing the best people to deal with all of the issues that they care most about vs. whatever currently nameless head of the fascist party that is currently trying like hell to kill anything and everything that is attempting to deal with the issues that those kids care about, the choice will clear up a lot.

The grass always looks greener on the other side, but that doesn't make it so.

Feels. I would rather have a reality based discussion. And Biden is competent and in a head to head race will easily handle any of the right wing trolls that will end up winning the Republican primary.

Katie Porter/Warren would be a good ticket!
Much better that entitled, "My turn" Hillary.
honestly, without looking, i don't know who Katey Porter is, and that makes me doubt she could win...i'm aware of the identity of most of the major players...ok, i looked her up, fairly impressive, but enough to take the election from desantis? not without a hell of a campaign leading up to it, with a lot of tv ads and radio spots...
the dems need to pick someone with wide recognition, a good record, no scandals for the republicans to exploit...if they started running ads about her now, she might have a chance, if they waited till next year, too little, too late

both of those individuals are known and hated by the right...i don't think they would have a chance, especially Franken, after resigning due to allegations of sexual misconduct...whether he did it or not, resigning without fighting seems like an admission of guilt. the republicans would play that over and over till it ran from the entire country's ears like water off a roof in a rain storm...

you can't have a reality based discussion when the people you are discussing deny reality...
and now you're pushing your feels..." I would rather have a reality based discussion. And Biden is competent and in a head to head race will easily handle any of the right wing trolls that will end up winning the Republican primary." You would rather...we aren't talking about ourselves, we're talking about young voters in America, and they don't give a shit what either of us would rather...
i'm not attacking Biden the man, or Biden the president, i'm looking at the young voters stated problems with the current administration...if the democrats want a significant percentage of that population to vote for them, they better start listening to at least some of what they say.
if you think the republicans are going to allow the debate to go against them without a huge fight and a lot of lies, well, you're smarter than that. they know all the right things to say, they get coached, they have strategist, planners, and speech writers, just like democrats do, except the republican versions are also skilled at disinformation, propaganda, at turning opinions...
democrats are fighting for democracy, republicans are fighting for their lives, and ours too...democrats better learn how to fight dirty...they don't have to participate, but they better learn how to counter that shit or they're fucked, and so is the country
