It's like the Republicans dont want to win the presidency... With Cain blowing his chances, Romney is in position - as he mostly has been anyway - to win the Republican nomination. Romney, currently the candidate widely considered to have the best chance at beating Obama in 2012 suggested what amounts to a voucher system for US veteran Healthcare:
On the plus side, this comment - especially if Romney follows up on it - will cost Romney his competitive edge against Obama in the 2012 elections.
It's funny, because the Veterans healthcare system is superior to comparably priced private insurance and outperforms medicare in both quality of care and cost control. A voucher system would gradually shift a bigger burden onto the consumer (in this case US veterans), without controlling costs or improving quality of care. Cool.“Sometimes you wonder, would there be some way to introduce some private sector competition, somebody else that could come in and say, you know each soldier gets X thousand dollars attributed to them and then they can choose whether they want to go on the government system or the private system and then it follows them, like what happens with schools in Florida where they have a voucher that follows them, who knows.”
