America is the world's largest penal system; 5% of the world's population with 25% of the world's incarcerated people. No other nation on Earth has a larger prison population than America.

We're the 'land of the free' just like we're a 'democracy'.

Its good business for the private jails, employs people who will normally be lucky to get jobs in the unemployed adjacent category, like flipping burgers or something.
For some it seems like a win win even... If only people could stop being arseholes by nature.

If America has to incarnate such a large population, maybe it's not because we have more criminals but rather that our government and Justice system is criminal.
