Rockwool Q's

Ok my usual rooting method was to stick my seeds in a container w\ soil outside. Once the seeds sprout and get an inch or so tall I move them inside. I have recently been expiermenting with rockwool cubes to root inside. I have one wet cube near my light and another one near my light but in a ziplock bag with a little water (to keep humidity in and keep the cube wet), I will find out for myself which method works best.

My question is that once the seed in rockwool sprouts can I grow in just the rockwool cube in a tray with a little standing water on the bottom? or must I transplant the cube to soil?I am going for an SOG setup, so I dont mind about keeping my plants only "rockwool cube small"

How does the one in the ziplock bag get air? Rockwool halods moisture better than any other growing medium as far as I know. I usually put rockwool cubes under a humidity dome until the seeds pop the surface, than you need some air movement around them. You might want to check out Al B Fucts Post on cloning. He explains how he treats his rockwool cubes. Damp not 'wet etc. May be helpful.

No standing water on the bottom. This will drown your plants, literally.

or must I transplant the cube to soil?

If thats the medium you are going to finish in you might choose to. I would recommend an interim step transplant before going to finish size pots. Be sure you keep light from hitting the sides of the rockwool cube.

Now I am a little confused, you are going to do a soil SOG grow? Soil would be best in a 3-3 1/2 gallon pot, really to large to be considered 'Sea Of Green' Method. Help me out here, what do you mean? VV

Well I was going to do the SOG in small cups (not dixi lol) or those mini pots. I am not a drug dealer, this is just for personal. I just want to make the maximum use of my tiny little grow cabinet.

The ziplock bag is something I made up for the clones. I thought its the exact same thing as putting it in a clear tupperwear container (or humidity dome). I open it twice a day to mist. I breathe in it to fill with co2. Will read that post though

Also I haven't been PHing my water to 5.5 as the rockwool says. Is this just a "technicality" or is is it important. I have had no success yet, but then again I've only been dong it some days

Ohh I forgot to mention I am doing the rockwool with clones as well. Same method. I have one ziplock bag dry, one with some standing water and left them outside. Just trying things out

Hello,

I tryed to germinated 10 seeds striaght in rockwool. I do not think this method has a high success rate. IMO the paper towel method works the best for me, there are other techniques out there. The only thing you have to worrie about with paper towel is, I like to get the root kind of long before I transplant it, and some times the root can grow into the paper towel which thus makes it harder to extract, but that has happend to me once, you just have to Keep an eye on the root. So basically what it comes down to is try to find another way of germinating before you stick it into the RW, I think you will have a higher success rate. The good thing is once you stick it in the RW after there is a root, and you do all of your 5.5 PH balancing, you should see better results. You may find success the way you are doing it now and I could be totally wrong. Anyways keep us posted. GL

Thanks
