Old vs new Grodan 6” hugo cubes

I have been trying to find out for many months now and have been searching all over the internet for an answer but I just couldn’t find anything at all on this.

I even talked to Grodan in the Netherlands but they just told me the green labelled 6” hugo cubes are the older version and those are the only ones distributed throughout Europe. Then I talked to Grodan in Canada and they told me the old ones are not being produced anymore in North America and they are only selling the newer upgraded version now which says Gro-Block on the label.

I see from earlier posts on IG by Serge from Cookies Maywood that when they first switched to rockwool they have pics posted where I see they were using both simultaneously and I tried to ask him several times about them without any luck unfortunately.

The big question is:

Is there any major difference between the older version and the newer one when used for cannabis plants or they are pretty much the same? Does Gro-Block, the newer one drain quicker maybe?

I would be so grateful if anyone had any real info on this.

The green labeled ones are made with a product that raises the ph, they stopped using it in their production, Everest Fernández on youtube mentions it on his channel just for growers after he questioned them, after speaking to a few UK wholesalers I believe they are distributing old stock in ths area's of the world where the cannabis industry is not thriving, apparently Grodan refused to sell the purple wrapped stuff to the UK, if you search about enough you'll get the same answer unfortunately.

I used the blue/silver label 6inch groblocks for 2 yrs, they work the same.
hold more water actually and dont dry down as fast was my expeirence when we had both. Hugo blocks also had better structural integrity...by insulation standards. Think denser and not as fluffy

Thanks a lot for your reply. Yeah I also confirmed it with Grodan Netherlands that they are only selling the green ones in Europe. It’s such a shame but I went ahead and ordered some of the silver ones from the US. Of course the shipping fee sucks, but I’m still glad at least I got the proper ones now.
