So, we live in a republic of sorts. We do not recognize it, because Republics require slaves and we are the slaves. Corporations are people, we are second class citizens. Credit card companies watch your spending... And they tell you about it on commercials, as if it is something you should want... Your cable company offers "safety" by putting cameras in your house so "you" can check up on things... etc etc etc

I propose an alteration to our republic. No one wants socialism because it turns into communism, but what if it didn't? As a republic we need slaves in order to function, but I think human slaves is a revolting thought. I really don't think anyone would mind having robot slaves though, am I wrong?

Imagine if the library were automated, this is "Robo-Socialism". You can get things from the government for free (because the government understands you were not born with 1,000,000 books in your house) , with a promise to return them. If you do not return, you owe money to help the library function. And robots are sorting books, ringing up library fees, and loaning out computer time. If the government worked like this we would see more successful people, less poverty AND more productivity in our politicians.

Robot making is becoming something that is easier and easier to be done at home, and I think this is extremely possible in the near future.

You can't get things from the government for "free". The initial capital expenditure of a robot would probably pay 10-20 years of salary for a librarian which means that the money you save from the initial cost would be used to invest. Basically what I am saying is that I wouldn't expect government robots any time soon, not until they are actually cheaper than people. People are so cheap, all it takes is a man and a woman. Robots are expensive, they take all sorts of parts and need maintenance, plus programming and then you have issues with attitude and the big robots blaming the little robots for everything that goes wrong....It's all just a big mess.

The library COULD be turned into a giant kind of REDBOX though.

Well, this would actually start at home. I understand that the government would need money to do this, that is why I suggested that people look into robot making stuff. What we would need to see happen in privately owned versions of "Robo-Socialist" structure, and the Republic itself would just have to catch up.

And turning the library into a redbox is no different than what I am saying. I am not saying we need Eva style floating bots. I'm suggesting more like Wall-e's, that have simple commands like "Find book #X5TIO79 and bring it to sector 4, bin 5" and that happens to be where you are standing at a screen.

Like bringing the car manufacturing line robots to every company, but altered for different purposes.

Yeah, but what do we do with all the people whose jobs have been replaced by a robot?

I thought about buying a roomba, but its too stupid to know that my socks can't be vacuumed up.

My wife use's her Roomba a lot..I have had to rebuild it once in like three years and then just the other day we installed a new battery pack..It needs frequent cleaning because of the dog hair, but it works pretty good for what it is...

your premise fails right there.

a republic requires engaged and intelligent citizens.

when the people are watching, the representatives do their jobs or get the boot. when nobody is watching, the representatives can do as they wish, at which point the cursus honorum stops drawing noble men who wish to serve the republic, and starts attracting shitheels who want to serve themselves.

our republic has become a mandarin state where the bureaucrats run the show, and the legislature simply rubber stamps the orders of the emperor while stuffing their pockets with gold.

all the mechanization in the universe wont fix a plebiscite who have no interest in their society's steering committee, and will accept bread and circuses instead of leadership and integrity.

If you spent the money on learning how to make simple sensors instead of buying a rumba, you could probably think of an even better contraption based on their idea.

And we are a Republic, so it would be like Rome or Greece. We would have more artists, poets, thinkers, etc.

And engaged and intelligent citizens cannot work in a system where there are 2 classes. 1 class will always strive to keep the other one uninformed. I do not believe in the idea of lieing to children either (when they actually want to know something, Santa and God are ok for young kids).

And having engaged citizens does not say anything about slaves. You are saying exactly what I am, you are just forgetting the non-equal "citizens" that are not allowed to be engaged. How many of you have lobbyists? Corporations do.

Only a few things. I am allergic to lobster, steak, caviar, expensive champagne and hash. Mostly hash. But I seem to only be allergic to those things if they come from a non private source. So, we would have to go to a restaurant or dispensary for anything to have a bad effect.

It's because there used to be 2 trolls here. The Crypt Keeper and Uncle Buck. The Crypt Keeper would stalk me and talk shit for no reason, then when he went to go meet April in real life, Uncle Buck took his place and started hating on me.

It actually "started" when I copied and pasted a book from the 60s by Abbie Hoffman called "Steal This Book". The philosophy of the book is that you can live for free if you steal from the corporate world. They acted like I wrote the book and started calling me a thief and a low life and have not stopped following me ever since.

Most of the time people were nice till Buck came, but somehow he behaviorally trained them to still act this way now. It's all good though, if it weren't for them all the noobs here would probably not even see my threads. And they can't even help themselves :lol:

Less big government
Money backed by gold and other things of value
Less corporations in government
More government programs, THAT EARN MONEY so we don't have to pay taxes (Making bio-diesel, hash and other things we will buy)
