My RO/DI water is putting water out at 2-4PPM but it has a strange plastic taste to it now.. does that mean I need to change the filters? or is the PPM all that matters?

That's totally normal. Mine has always read a few ppm like yours. Filters are good for around a year. Im betting that strange taste your noticing is the lack of taste. RO water does have a taste to it in the way that you can taste when its tap or RO water. But it also could be that you havent flushed the system enough, they reccomend that you run the filter for a few gallons when it hasnt been used in a while. I have made 100's of gallons with mine over two years. My membrane is now starting to show signs it needs to be replaced. My water is showing 15-20ppm.

I just did a water change on my 165 gal res too =( I'll take that to mean I need new filters. thanks VV

I have only had mine a couple months but I have made well over a thousand gallons with it, the PPM seems the norm but taste has me confused, the water out here is garbage and around 350-400PPM prior to hitting my ro/di

how many stages is your system?

I believe its a 5 stage 200 GPD unit, it has 3 large stages on the bottom, and two small ones up top.

I change my prefilter every two to three months and the second filter at least every six months. VV
