While true, I've found that the Brittas take out the vast majority of dissolved solids. I'm usually showing about 10ppm after running it through.Bad tap water has high PPM, a de-chlorinator/sediment filter will not lower the PPM so you need an RO filter.
My Brita only takes my tap from 440ppm to 310ppm and that is with a new filter. It doesn't produce near enough water for my needs either. While true, I've found that the Brittas take out the vast majority of dissolved solids. I'm usually showing about 10ppm after running it through.
Fascinating! Not sure what to say... it's not actually Brita I don't think but it's a like-brand. Either way, I've seen mine drop from 120-240 to ~10-40 many times. Luckily, most of what we've got in ours is calcium carbonate and that's honestly about it. We had an issue with lead at one point but the filters I've used always seem to knock that out when I test the water afterward. My Brita only takes my tap from 440ppm to 310ppm and that is with a new filter. I found some info about my tap waterI've been having good success just using britta filters believe it or not. Little expensive over time but works. Point is: The water isn't the potential problem, the pH and what it contains is.
I did on Lucas formula, not worth the hassle, I just use clean water now and it’s way more accurate.Never had a single issue with my 250ppm tap water.

Works great so far, and has good reviews. 6 stage filter, reads 0 on my tds meter. I have one line ran to my reservoir, and a second line ran up to a faucet and storage tank in my kitchen sink for drinking water. That's cheap for a system
