He's Gone was written about their manager stealing millions from the band. It came to be a touching tribute to dead Dead Heads.
I actually know that lol. But the line was too perfect to resist. He was a rat in a drain ditch, caught on the dwindling limb of white supremacy.
I was a touring deadhead from 87 to 95. Saw Jerry's last show at Soldier Field. I also saw Brents last show at World Music Theatre. Chicagoland was not good to the band

And it's still a beautiful tribute to people you love and miss, Robert Hunter was a lyrical genius

Rat in a drain ditch, caught on a limb, you know better but I know him
Like I told you, what I said, steal your face right off your head
Now he's gone, now he's gone, Lord he's gone, he's gone
Like a steam locomotive, rollin' down the track
He's gone, he's gone and nothin's gonna bring him back, he's gone
Nine mile skid on a ten mile ride, hot as a pistol but cool inside
Cat on a tin roof, dogs in a pile
Nothin' left to do but smile, smile, smile
Now he's gone, now he's gone, Lord he's gone, he's gone
Like a steam locomotive, rollin' down the track
He's gone, he's gone and nothin's gonna bring him back, he's gone
Goin' where the wind don't blow so strange
Maybe off on some high cold mountain chain
Lost one round but the price wasn't anything
A knife in the back and more of the same
Same old, rat in a drain ditch, caught on a limb
You know better but I know him
Like I told you, what I said
Steal your face right off your head
He's gone, now he's gone, Lord he's gone, he's gone
Like a steam locomotive, rollin' down the track
He's gone, he's gone and nothin's gonna bring him back, he's gone
Like a steam locomotive, rollin' down the track
He's gone, he's gone and nothin's gonna bring him back, he's gone
Ooh, nothin's gonna bring him back
Ooh, nothin's gonna bring him back
Ooh, nothin's gonna bring him back
Ooh, nothin's gonna bring him back
Ooh, nothin's gonna bring him back
Ooh, nothin's gonna bring him back
Ooh, nothin's gonna bring him back
Ooh, nothin's gonna bring him back (he's gone for good)
Ooh, nothin's gonna bring him back
Ooh, nothin's gonna bring him back

Addiction is a form of slow suicide. Rush denied any of his bad habits were harmful, which pretty much proves this point. Obese, sloth, smoked tobacco, took opioids, Covid, excessive drinking he denied any harm from all. So, he lied. He knew. He knew and still did it. He killed himself slowly and deliberately.

His bravado was a self-deception and avoided addressing his real issue. Depression is a bitch. No one needs to regret Rush's early departure but I regret the possibilities if he had faced up to his real problem. Maybe it would have turned out differently. Some say that every choice creates two universes, the one followed and the alternative. He WAS a charismatic and influential person. I wonder what the worlds are like where Rush chose differently?

Butt Plugs Were Originally Sold As A Miracle Cure For Headaches, Acne, And Insanity

For a long time, medicine was pre-occupied with the question "can this be solved by putting something in the butt?"

Take, for example, tobacco smoke enemas, in which 18th Century physicians saw drowning victims and attempted to de-deadify them by blowing tobacco smoke up their rectums with a pipe. Despite having no medical benefit whatsoever, the practice was popular, and enema kits lined the Thames like lifebelts, ready to be used as one final humiliation for somebody who was crap at swimming.

This practice ended sometime after 1800 when it became apparent that it didn't really work, given how the anus famously isn't really connected to the lungs, but doctors weren't quite finished with having a poke around in the general area to see what happens just yet.

"May be used by any intelligent person."

Well that must have relieved many minds.
