Revegging a male

Hi everyone,

Ive just finished doing an open pollination with a male blueberry from dj short and would like to keep it to backcross females of the crosses i made. I did the crosses inside over winter and its now going into outdoor season here. Ive cut back the male and collected the remaining pollen and wondering if you guys would see any problems arising from me putting the male outside to reveg? Is this likely to get him going again so i can do the backcross outside?

Ive read on another forum that if the male shows no hermie traits during the reveg that he is a strong male, is this correct?

Easiest to reveg under 24 hours but if your getting enough ligt go ahead it should reveg fine in a couple of weeks but most males qill do this with no signs of hermiing doesnt mean its a particularly good male test the seed from his pollen and yoill know if hes good or not by the offspring he produces.

Cheers for the reply mate! I'm thinking of putting him back under a T5 for a few weeks on 20/4. He seems to be doing ok outside so far though so not sure if i should just leave him...ah decisions!

I'd put him under the T5 to get the longest day possible to speed up the process. Once he starts to reveg ik curious what he'll look like.
The only way to tell how good a male is is to grow out his daughters.

Yeah i put him back under the T5 so time will tell. I did get a heap of pollen off him before i cut him back so i can still do the back cross if he doesnt pull through. I'll be growing out his daughters and taking cuttings to choose the best ones for the back cross.

Cool man, I'm just curious to see if you get new shoots growing out of his balls like you do from the calyxes when you reveg a female.

So far ive got new shoots coming out of the nodes so as normal so far. The one thing that i have noticed though is the few clusters of balls that are still growing, are covered in trichs and has the perfrct blueberry aroma to it. This male is really showing me how good he is!!

Most of the time he will not stop these preflower clusters. Ever. It is frustrating that even under 24 they don't ever fully go back. In my experience. Good luck, I have often removed them ever few days if possible. It works fine

Peace

For real? Damn i better move my clones out from under the light then or he will seed them up again! Cheers for the tip mate :)

Well some sad news...my male didn't make it :( i think I cut him back too much and he just didn't recover. Showed some signs of new growth but then just went down hill. Managed to get a container of pollen sacks off him which a heap of pollen came out of when dried. Should at least get some beans if i do the back cross :)
