Reserva Privada: OG18

I grew it around 2012, was the best og I have had from seed. I remember talking to @althor back then about his experience with it. I had crossed it to a Cindy 99 male I had, the progeny are 50/50 but don’t have the skunky which was prominent in the 18. More head too, more manageable than cindy as in not as racy. I would love to get the pheno I had back too, one of the dispensaries here has a cut of it and it’s nothing like I had. The one I had didn’t stretch it was a squat little fucker with no lateral branches. Buds were small but uniform and solid rocks, hard to grind. I’ll be watching :)

Two things:

1. Any strains from reputable seed banks with the piney, fuely, minty, classic OG smell and taste?

2. I recently picked up 12 OG18 seeds from Reserva Privada and I am greatly disappointed. I grew this strain out when it was first introduced almost 10 years ago. It was the best OG I ever came across. Every pheno was amazing. Unfortunately, I lost that strain.

Several years go by and I picked up OG18 many more times hoping to find the OG18 pheno again. Every single time, they were nothing like the first batch.

I finally gave up. So last year I picked up some seeds from Attitude and low and behold, there was an OG18 freebie. I gave it a go and WOW! It turned out AMAZING. It had that piney taste. Not quite like the first time. But stellar results nonetheless. I even had it lab tested and it hit 30% total THC.

So I bought 12 more seeds... I grew them out. NOTHING like the past few. They smell more like something sweet and fruity. I’ve grown to despise Reserva Privada now. Terrible quality.

Soooo... any recommendations for that minty, piney, fuely, classic OG taste?

Thanks
I still have 3 packs from 2009 in the vault good to know that they were good phenos. I’ve heard mixed reviews all around.

Wow! you should most definitely make some seeds with those, considering that the strain is no longer around. I am growing my OG#18 seeds (circa 2016) and hoping that they are the same genetics as when I grew it years ago(2013). Have included a photo of the seed packs I got from attitude. One of the packs was a freebie of two seeds that have both germinated and are huge moms, and the other 6 have also germinated and are moms. Will have results within the next 6 months. Will of course post pics and smoke report.og18-001.jpg

Man I’m a jelly donut right now, the one I had was a squat little cunt that you had to abuse to get the thing to branch out. The best smoke, to me second only to chem 91. That’s the time period I had her in too. I hope for your success and generosity ;)

Nice, I actually still have a full pack of the original OG #18 from Reserve Privada Seeds from about years ago as well. They have been tucked away in the vault as I heard from lots of growers about their great experiences with that batch so like many strains, I snagged them just in case I ever had the itch to grow them.

I'm just curious why you didn't clone the recent batch you like from Attitude seeds? Just like when two people have several kids, different seeds will likely all have different traits from each other. When you find a strain you like, it's always in your best interest (in my humble opinion) to clone it if you are looking to continue to grow that one out. Otherwise you will be chasing that phone for a lifetime with no real assurances that you will find it again.

Life takes it’s pound of flesh too brother. I moved across a federal checkpoint and since I’m allergic to life in prison I let go of all my cuts, some days I regret it but I love my wife! I try keep my karma up so hopefully the Ganga will smile on me again.

To be fair in the last year and a half since I started growing again, and coming back to this community, people of been extremely generous and kind and for that I am thankful! Things are looking up, and I’m tired of paying dispensaries for half assed buds!

Just a quick update. Of the eight OG #18 seeds I planted, 7 of them came up and have been vegging for a few months now and have even been topped when i made cuts about a month ago. I have been able to make cuts from all of them except for one who just does not want to root, so still trying and wont give up.

The plants do not bush up when topped and in veg and are slow veggers to be honest and very lanky. Is this typical of OG #18 in veg?

I do recall that she really stretched in flowering and was not a huge yielder, more like small golf sized nugs with tight small calyxs, but ohh so potent and LOUD LOUD LOUD!!! I'm hoping my seeds from Attitude (Dec 2016) are the real deal. If so, I have no problem selfing a few branches and making some feminized seed.

i just looked though my old orders and packs bought in November 2013 were duds. Also got a few freebies here and there after 2013 and all were duds. I'd guess anything bought after 2012 will be duds compared to what they were in 2008-10 when many got the freebies that are now just becoming legends. Not to say the 2013 ones weren't og but they were very watered down version of the bad ass skunky og they originally were.

That line was always hit and miss, there were several expressions in them. Personally I would be looking for loud og smells, heavy earth, then work back from there. Smaller nugs but density that can break a grinder tooth.

Sounds about right for most any "heavy" OG strain.

RP fell to shit the last handful of years. Whatever they had at one time, they no longer possess. Basically the same as you, I had a Jews Gold cut aka Kosher Kush back in like 2012 / 2013 and it was amazing. Long story short, I lost it and got some seeds from RP to hunt for a nice cut again. The plants all threw bananas like clock work and it wouldnt clone out. Huge harvest of sub mediocre buds.
The hunt for the old school "piney" was brought up in another thread and I tossed out a recommendation of
NDNGUY'S 1979 Christmas Bud
Preservation project. They were freebies from Useful Seeds and lots of folks seem to be finding exactly that in them. Best of luck on your hunt.
Had the same problem with there sky walker. 4 years back them seeds were 10/10. Done them about a year ago and it was awful! Such a shame!

Just a quick update. Of the 7 Reserva Privada OG #18 seedlings, I am now taking another round of cuttings. These do not root very well and as you can see in the photo, are very viney and lanky with looong spaces between internodes and stalks that are very thin, so making cuttings is tough, though I had fairly good success in the last round when I took cuttings. I made a bunch of cuts and will go into flowering once these root and veg some. Hoping these seeds are the same version that i bought back in 2012/2013 which was FIRE, even to Cali standards.

Reserva Privada is under the DNA Genetics umbrella of brands. They were owned by Privateer Holdings which just now merged with Tilray. I personally like some of DNA's stuff. Don't know anything about the OG18 though.

Have you tried a cross like Double Alien 18?
