Regular seeds or feminized which produce the best plants?

I read on a breeders site that this breeder doesn't produce Fem. seed as it ,in their opinion, weakens the cannabis genetics. Is it better to buy regular seeds, plant, weed out the males or go with feminized seed.Does one produce a better plant.Better being more vigorous in it's growth, more potent thc content, more true to the plants genetics. All things being equal in the growing process.Thanks.flupped

In a long term serious breeding project, feminizing seed is a dangerous shortcut which is likely to favour plants which are more likely to produce male flowers on a female plant, IRREGARDLESS of the method. Its irresponsible for any breeder to not select against the tendancy of female plants to produce male flowers IRREGARDLESS of the cause.

For seed by selfing through silver or GA or equivalent methods its fine for first generation crops, or the maintenance of an Open Pollinated variety as production stock. Beyond a single generation it really begs the question as why one would not select a preferred male to breed the female, rather than selfing a female. Especially since a self female in populations available today will NOT breed true as they are not homozygous (not fully inbred).

Anybody who thinks otherwise about the simplicity of the inheritance of the production of male flowers on a female plant or the lack of understanding male\female heterozygous condition in Cannabis is fooling themselves.

im to tired to talk about this again today, please refer to yesterday or the day before's thread on the exact same topic, probably a dozen of them in the last month or so.

Best is a super objective term in this case.

If you're breeding you want one thing, if you're growing you may want another.

Joe wants one, Suzy wants another.

Regular or Feminized are both equally capable of prestigious plants...can breed with either ...IMO fems are better and breeding with them helps narrow selection... Practicality wise fems are better...variances regs are better

IMHO, it would be far less boring to discuss the commonly used but widely frowned upon use of the word "irregardless", but that is setting the bar pretty low.

Imo i would go with regs its more of the natural process than fem seed and plus u get the chance to stumble across a good male for future breeding

Irregardless is a word commonly used in place of regardless or irrespective, which has caused controversy since the early twentieth century, though the word appeared in print as early as 1795. [SUP][1][/SUP] Most dictionaries list it as "nonstandard" or "incorrect".

Its commonly used although incorrect as my english teacher scolded me and my liberal arts GF. But WHO CARES its already in common use in the american language (which is why I highlighted it) since We do not speak english we speak American.

If you think the actual topic is boring why did you comment?

Is it boring that when I buy seed from a breeder that I expect a strain which are resistant to producing seed because of male flowers on a female plant ?

Please forgive my ignorance.I didn't want to start a fight/argument.I'm really new at this.I found several strains I want to go out.I was planning on growing a mother plant of each strain to clone from in the future.I thought that either the use of regular seed or fem. seed may have had an advantage in this.Sorry.flupped

I think both have their pro's and cons depending on the individual growers situation...

I do believe the genetics of "straight run' seeds are more stable, and less likely to hermie or 'pop bananas' late in flower... and a lot more of the strains have been around longer and are more homogenous...

BUT: they also have the risk of getting males- and for folks with limited money and/or space-- spending 6 weeks vegging a plant only to have to kill it -- well--sucks.

Feminized has the pro of always having female plants.. so no worry of wasted time-- EXCEPT they are often more likely to stress hermie, or 'pop bananas' later in flower... and many are not that homogenous- so you end up with several pheno's (but that does happen in some newer crosses of straight run seeds too!)

So if just growing for yourself, have limited space or want just 2-3 plants- I'd say go with Feminized..
If growing a lot of plants, keeping Mom's, breeding, cloning etc.. I'd go for straight- run IF I have the room for a couple extras- in case of the occasional male...
