I have a loop but it only goes up to 10x and 30x. I have a little bitty handheld microscope that zooms into 60x - 100x and I can really see the trichomes if I squint just right into the tiny eyehole lol I tried to take pics by putting my phone to the eyehole but I can't get a good shot. I'm thinking about getting a digital microscope but I'm not sure it's worth $30 - $50. what do you use?

i use what sounds to be the same thing you have, a hand held unit from radio shack..

it does take a bit of getting used to for sure, but once you figure it out, it works great ime..

i had a digital one, but my dog ate it.. :(

Loupe 30x cheap easy no computer, if you want to save the pix go with the microscope.
I use my loupe and my digital camera and I get some nice close ups.
Sample of loupe and camera, picture is cropped so you don't see all the blur around the clear area.

What you want to learn from studying trichs can easily be accomplished with the 12 dollar scope from Radio Shack. I just wished they used LED for the light.

I use a small little plastic 30X 'scope that is about the size of a pack of smokes. HINT - EASY WAY TO USE A SMALL 'SCOPE --- place the bottom of the 'scope so that it lays flat over the sample to be viewed. Tip the 'scope back and forth until you get it focused WHILE leaving ONE POINT OF THE 'SCOPE SECURE ON THE SURFACE. This allows one to focus with one hand, you don't need the focus wheel if you keep one 'scope point married to the viewing surface. Takes a bit of practice until it gets to be natural. BigSteve.

min 60x . any smaller wont see them. the 30 x is nice to look ay bugs or mold. 60x 30x jewels loop used by every body I know. they also have a camera that hooks to your smart phone so you can take pics or look at it on the phone. looks cool 60 bucks . cheap loop is 5 to 20 dollars

lol..feeding the dog will help prevent that.

i did feed her, my scope.. :D

she also ate a $125 light bulb once too.. that was when she was a pup, she used to eat everything.. she hasn't eaten anything in a good year or more now she's grown out of it..

and this is exactly how i use my scope.. just rest it on the bud and move it till it focuses, good post big steve.. :D

I have 4 high power magnification devices, 2 scopes and 2 loupes. I like this one better than the scopes. But I really like this one for less than $3 (with a nice little case). A traditional loupe that is lighted (it has 2 powerful white leds, or you can use the blue UV led), easy to hold and keeps your face a bit farther away, so you can check buds not leaves. I'll take a pic through it in the next day. Or wait, I'll do it now....lol

Coulda done better with the pics but it was a bit windy out  As long as the device offers about 40x and you can hold it steady and see through it, you should be just fine

R2T :peace:
