just took some pics, wondering what everyone's opinion on when they personally would start the flush from the look of my plant. checked the trichs with a micro and they are all cloudy with a few red and clear trichs here and there, more clean than red though. im thinking i still have a week or so then flush, then wait a couple more weeks and harvest. what does everyone else think eh?? any helpful opinions are welcome, thanks for the positive feedback guys keep smoking enjoy yourself and love your life, peace.

Cut off all nutrients and use only clear water until cutting. By the time you harvest you will have added enough clear water to flush. If you are seeing amber resin you are real close to harvest, depending on the type of buzz you like.

Given her current state of health, flushing her and giving her no food for two weeks is seriously going to weaken your product quality. If you think she's done, chop her. If you think she needs two more weeks, meet the plant's nutritional needs for the next 14 days, then chop.

im confused about this, i was under the impression that flushing was trying to flush all of the harmful chemical fertilizers out of the soil. i thought that if flushing gets rid of it but that there is still some in the plant, so if i were to harvest without waiting any time the smoke would taste like unflushed bud (super harsh bad smelling popping when burning) i figured if i let the plant go for a couple more weeks, or at least a week it would give the plant enough time to use up the ferts it still has, which would result in better smoother skunkier smoke. im not saying your wrong homebrewer, what works for you works for you ya know.. just worried im going to get nasty smoke because last harvest i didnt flush properly. it was good bud dont get me wrong, just smelled tasted burned bad. let me know if any of this makes sense, im going off of reasonable opinion rather than experience.

anyone else have any opinions about this?

I actually have a question that might be the same question.... If you flush it, say with the 3-times amount method, can you chop the next day, or should you wait a couple? And opposingly, ANOTHER method of flushing is to just water with straight water over the last few weeks? or couple.

Flushing and not flushing is one of the most debated topics on this forum. Some say you do not need to flush if you haven't over-fertilized. Others say they taste the difference between flushed and unflushed bud. Over-fertilized means that your plant is burned up from too many nutrients. This could also be nutrient lock-out because of too high or low ph.

I cannot tell the difference between flushed and unflushed bud so far. I can tell the difference between properly dried and unproperly dried bud.

My advice would be to flush if your plant is "burned up" from too many nutes. But, you should have done that on the first sign of burn, and not necessarily because you have 2 weeks left until harvest. I have found that flowering plants tend to use less nutrients towards the end, and I do lessen the nutes by 1/2 to 1/4 strength the last few weeks.

I don't have a lot of experience, but these are my current thoughts on the matter. No flushing as long as you haven't over-fertilized, or messed up your ph.

I'm not going to get into a debate about this but here is where my logic comes from; I don't flush my garden veggies and they taste great. Tobacco farmers don't flush, rather they 'cure' their product for 'smoothness'. If you were growing outdoors, how would you stop your plant from pulling up minerals from the soil? As the previous poster mentioned, if you've done a good job of not over-feeding, then you shouldn't need to flush. Even if you overfed, a flush isn't going to correct the damage a grower already did.

More importantly, you've got a sativa-dominant lady there and waiting too long to harvest is going to affect the high in a negative way.

great info homebrewer and meouth! really appreciate it though homebrewer, very nice info just what i was looking for. next time ill just cut the nutes down the last few weeks making sure to get a good amount of runoff after each whatering when i know i only have a few weeks left. ive made my decision and im going to cut it tomorrow morning right before the lights come on. hey homebrewer quick question while were on the subject. if you have a sativa dominant plant do you personaly harvest when you see a couple red trichs, or all milky or what? ty so much man smoke on.

That is a good practice to get into.

I look for a few signs; swollen calyxes, 75% red hairs and cloudy trics. A healthy plant at the time of harvest will show all of these signs at the same time and at that point, I chop. Specically with sativa dominant strains (which I prefer), I make sure to chop before I see amber. Generally speaking though, the plant tells me when it's ready to chop before amber trics appear anyways.

50% say flush 50% say don't, so I do it down the middle. If I run at 1500 ppm I cut it by 500 2 weeks before chop and by another 500 the last week. Face it the plant is dying at this point and isn't going to use as much nutes.
