hey all, sorry for putting up a whole thread like this, I see others doing it so I hope it's okay, tried in the "want to know if your plants are finished?" thread with no answer.
Here's some enormous pics of buds

there's about a thousand pics in the thread in my sig as well. 400watt HPS (added two-threeish weeks ago), cfls, 7 weeks and 5 days flowering, GH maxibloom and bud candy every other watering

damn so there's no real way with pics of this quality til I buy a scope?

I mean, it's not like I haven't read up on amber trichs and shit, it's just hard for me to tell clear/milky/amber having never seen any of them in person before, wondering if you guys had a guess at the ratio based on those pics.

also, if the trichs are 75-80% amber when I start flushing won't I just be on the couch for weeks because of the two week flush letting trichs mature longer?

You need to see the tricoms if they are 75 - 80% brown you plant is ready just flush and harvest
This may be how you like to see the trichomes in your buds, but for me this is far too long. That is for sure couchlock stage, if that is what you like go for it, which is why we grown our own to try and get the affect that we want. I personally have tried clear with a few cloudy, cloudy with a few clear and amber and liked them both. With that said, I am going to let one of my AK48 clones go until mostly amber just to test the couchlock affect.

harvest when most trics are milky.
and msBBB if you want a couchlock stone then why not just grow a strain thatll give you that?that way you can harvest at the peak time, not past it.

Unless you have super vision you need something to help you see the trichomes. You don't have to spend a lot of money to get a decent one (less than $20), with a scope you can see the colors very well.

ive always waited until the hairs brown then yank
it really depends on the time of high you want pull earlier for sativa type heady high or wait till they brown out for couchlock material

Makes sense...but I don't see it as being early or late harvesting, just a matter of choice. Yes, mostly amber is a sign of degradation in the trichomes but that is what some people like. Not me because I am a light weight when it comes to tolerance.

I use to think that when the hairs started to turn brown that the plant was about ready to harvest. Not true. This is a picture of my White Widow that I was thinking about harvesting before the other plants in that grow. It's not ready:

MsBBB is preaching the turth ^^

If you are looking for a cerebral high instead (energetic high) compared to a couchlock (stoner high) you should harvest sooner than late.
Your plants sound ready if they are cloudy.

However there are a lot of differences with regards to strains and hybrids in particular.
Indicas will obviously give you a more couchlock effect where a Sativa will give you a more cerebral effect.

If you like "strong" bud, go for amber tris.
If you like a "lighter" bud go for clear/cloudy tris.

All strains follow this method.

thanks man(and woman)! one more big question-what if I chop a cola now, chop one in a few days, another a few days after and 2 more a while after that, then go ahead and take all the rest of what's there? will it harm the bud I harvest later?

Yes, you can do a partial harvest. Most times the upper colas and buds are ready before the lower ones that don't get as much light penatration. I think that a partial harvest gives the lower buds a chance to get more potent by staying in the flowering area longer. Try it on a plant and see how it works for you.
